Doesn’t work properly. I relied on that successfully for a long time. Last time I was warned, I had already lost 10 ascendant shards bc they littered my postmaster so rapidly that it was too late by the time I got the notification.

Manage your postmaster and this isn't an issue. It only becomes an issue if you let it.

That means I have a good idea how to manage my postmaster. What I described happened once. Before that it didn’t happen like a million times bc I know how to manage my postmaster. The point is, even after all this time, they managed to catch me off guard and littered my pm with blue trash at a rate I couldn’t have expected. Therefore, 1. you need a notification and 2. it’s need to notify before it’s too late.

TL;DR: You weren't paying attention one time and lost a bunch of shards because of it. Bet you won't let that happen again, now won't you? There's a lot I can call Bungie out for, but this is something that falls on the players shoulders. Most people just suck at inventory management and then come here to complain, because lord forbid people accept blame.

Realize that at the end of the day, none of this matters, and that life is too short to care about things like the optimization of a loot system. Then, go eat a sandwich. I don't know man, you're outside. Do whatever you want.

I will say one thing about the loot system. I have done 49 clears of VoG and haven't gotten a Mytho. I am this close to retiring and living the life of a sheep herder. You know what doesn't get sent to the post master? Sheep.
