I'm confused on story so far, are we agreeing that savathun is our friend or what? I'm not a big lore dude or story reader.

Savathun is highly manipulative. Her “helping” us has to be viewed as part of her plan. I’m paraphrasing but one of her lines was “im trapped in this crystal” even though she allowed herself to be put in there. She is using Mara and the guardians to do her dirty work. We took out Savathun’s family in her nephew Crota, brother Oryx and disrupted the plans of her sister, Xivu Arath. Now she had Mara put her in the Crystal to “protect” her from the hunger of her worm and wants it to be removed. The worm gives her power at the cost of wanting to be feed with violence and death. She has obtained a lot of power beyond the worm but is shackled to the worm which is draining that power. So if she is separated from that worm her power grows. However we are supposed to get the dreaming city freed from the curse and get Osiris back for the worms removal. Obviously with the next release being “Witch Queen” who has the ability to give “light” to hive, we gave her a lot more than we got in return which is how Savathun is brilliant and cunning. Any “empathy” she shows to crow or us is all part of a “wheels within wheels” scheme. So she is not a friend and to her we are disposable pawns.

Everything has been explained in the game though. For example, just reading the books of sorrow as we collected fragments in the taken king, gave us huge insight into the hive origins and motivations. To put all the lore into cutscenes, we would spend more time watching movies than playing the game. So, in destinys format, we get the brief story stuff, but that is all surface level just enough to give motivation, and progress the narrative. But if you get into the habit of reading the lore as you collect it, you get a better idea of the overarching plot. ✌

I can appreciate that. Its not ideal, so i can totaly relate to your point. Personaly though, i love it, as i really enjoyed the dreadnaught collectibles. Thats what got me really delving into the lore. Id stop and read each part of the story on the touch of malice quest, and i really enjoyed my time. But again, for those who would like a more coherent story told in campaigns etc, i can see how it falls flat in that area.
