I have no proof for this claim, but I have the feeling that people (for example from Playstation) cause game freeze for players from the other console platform (in this example xbox) if they stay in the post-match-screen and just shut down their console or close the game. It is just an assumption, but since the search-tool for crossplay also caused kicks to the title screen, it doesn't sound that far off imo.
