For you to be able to ping an address, the address owner has to allow ICMP responses on their end, Bungie hasn't done so for any of their servers.
You're getting code cabbage, which means your network is having issues to allow your game client to communicate with other players through port 3097 on PC or 3074 on console. This can be happening on your home equipment, like some bad configuration on your router or at your ISP.
The canary error means the game has detected that your PC or console has lost connection to your home network, usually caused by a bad network adapter, bad cables or most of the time faulty wireless connectivity.
