if you have 10 enhancement prisms, you can trade them for more money to get more weapons like recluse, but just know that only the exotics other than Felwinter's Lie are worth getting from the tower.

Yeah this happens from time to time. It’s just an L you gotta take. I’ve been here since for like 7 years and I don’t think I’ve ever seen bungie return a weapon purchase for materials. As far as the materials that were required to get it, there are other methods of obtaining them. Namely resetting you pvp and gambit ranks, and higher level nightfall completions. You can also farm lower level nightfalls for the prisms and trade them at banshee for ascendant shards and whatnot. This is what most players do, usually during double nightfall reward weeks. Destiny is a game that rewards you based on what you play, instead of how long you play or how much you spend. The most rewarding thing isn’t always the most “fun” but it’s worth putting the time in if you want something specific (namely for materials for upgrade/kiosk purchases.) Best advice I can give is get to 1300 and watch out for the next double rewards nightfall week, find a group doing the legend version on an lfg site, join them. Turn on some YouTube videos on your phone to listen to and just grind for a couple hours. If you don’t do that at least occasionally, you’re always gonna be struggling for materials.

You can use it in pve too. Low level strikes. Some public events. I doubt you're getting your "money" back. Pay attention to what you're buying next time.
