Another year of many lackluster films is nearly done with once again. Thankfully there wasn't much in the way of torment from all the unnerving comic book adaptations this time around. However, all of the other categories can be just as disappointing if not worse.
Take your pick and write out what you thought happened to be this year's most unwatchable movie!

I'm not really a fan of the new live action Disney remakes because they lack creativity. Why can't they just think of a new story? Also, Mulan was filmed in/close to a Chinese concentration camp. I hate the Chinese government. They oppress Jews, Muslims, Christians, and anyone who opposes their dictator.

There were some good actors in there too. But it just wasn’t good. To me it’s the worst because it left a bad impression. I expect the Disney remakes to be bad, I expect the superhero movies to be mediocre, I expect blockbuster movies to be safe two hour explosion montages, and I expect comedies featuring Melissa Mccarthy to be wince worthy. Those movies are what they are, and to me that’s alright. They may not be my cup of tea, but they still serve their purpose to others who enjoy them. But Tenet isn’t like them. It’s supposed to be a clever spy, action movie, with the Nolan type concept. Instead it fell flat. Scenes moved so fast that taking a moment to think about a concept is punished. There’s no time to process or get a feeling for anything. And no, just because the movie tells me not to think about it, doesn’t mean I’m not going to think about it. That’s lazy. From a pretty good director too. It’s just disappointing. The music isn’t bad, but it’s placed horribly, and is just too much all the time. It’s constantly intense and anxiety inducing, even in scenes where characters are just talking about more relaxed things. For me, music is like comedy. It’s about the timing and punchline. Good and well placed music can turn an ok scene into an amazing one. Or even make a shitty, boring scene into a memorable one. What I’ll always use as an example of this is this scene from Star Wars Return of the Jedi, and the sequence at 3:46. On it’s own it’s pretty good. We’re seeing the build up of multiple movies reach it’s climax with our hero character slashing and jabbing in a fit of rage, which is a trait of “the bad guys”. With the opera like music it adds that extra sense of finality, the extra bit of emotion that makes it even better. Say what you want about Star Wars and Return of the Jedi, but the music is good and usually well placed. So in Tenet every scene feels like Hunk is running to his extraction point. I get. Potentially world ending events. But if the characters get a chance to breathe, why don’t I? I had a headache afterwards from the intensity of the music. Didn’t match the tone of most of the scenes either. I’m just disappointed again. The action scenes were good though. I didn’t, and still don’t care about Protagonist. That’s the main characters name, by the way. Thought you should know. He’s literally listed as protagonist. The only time he’s referred to, it’s protagonist. The characters mostly suck too. They explain not developing or telling anything about anyone as “we don’t do names in this line of work”, which is once again lazy. I understand why, but it doesn’t excuse the fact I don’t care about anyone, except Tall Lady, and that’s only because I knew things about her. That’s all I can say without any spoilers. It’s my worst of 2020 purely because of the amount of talent behind it. It shouldn’t have turned out the way it did. Usually I try not to explain this much, as I can be long winded when it comes to breaking down and criticizing things, but because of it not being an option or one people would think of, I felt it necessary. I could and have said more. But I think it’s enough for everyone to see my point.

1 답변If you’ve only seen one movie that was released this year, does it mean it’s technically the best and worst movie of the year that you’ve seen?

1 답변The Other Lamb (it released in the US this year, so I'm counting it). Watching paint dry would be more mentally stimulating. Also, what was so bad about The Invisible Man other than that stupid scene at the restaurant?
