I intend to go down in history. Not sure about you.

At this point I don’t think that phrase means very much. Quite a lot of people have that or something similar as a ‘goal’ but realistically, not everyone can be a Martin Luther King or a Nietzsche, or a Stephen Hawking, or a George Washington. And frankly, lots of the most renowned, revered and ‘important’ people in history only became that after their death with historical retrospect, and did not suffer fame and fortune while they were alive.

For most people that may be true, however I have a couple reasons to disagree. - I’m very much an optimist. - If I’m not shooting for the stars in whatever I do it feels like I’m wasting my time (hence why I’m dedicating my career to public service.) Becoming famous should never be a goal in and of itself, but striving to accomplish great things (which may very well result in going down in history) is something everyone should do. Martin Luther didn’t dedicate his life to becoming famous, but because he accomplished great things he’s now regarded as an icon of equality everywhere. As a final note, Nietzsche was a creep. The dude needed some serious antidepressants as well. 😂
Sorry, all out of salt.
If nobody was optimistic or driven then nothing great would ever happen, but I’m a strong believer in tempering that with a certain amount of realism. Because all too often people get a little obsessed with that kind of thing and it makes them unhappy when they look back on their life (however far along they may be) and they haven’t achieved the things they wanted to achieve or done the great things they thought they should have. Life tends to ignore what we want quite a lot of the time, and isn’t a steady climb upwards to happier and more accomplished places, and when people realise that it can be a real slap in the face sometimes.

As I said, it shouldn’t be the goal, but we should always try to do great things that could bring us great success as well. Anything else is shooting for mediocrity, which is absolutely unacceptable.
Sorry, all out of salt.
I’m gonna ride a shark into a volcano with 250lbs of dynamite strapped to my chest like El Macho. In all honesty, I’m going into a career with the State Department, specifically the foreign service. I’d love to make the jump to politics at some point as well.
Sorry, all out of salt.
