Hunter Dodge is so Superior to Rift and Barricade

Skip to 4:20 on the video. Before any hunter main actually try and sell it short ill take insight from an unbiased source over any false misconstrued bs. So here goes dodge is supposed to grant a free reload or melee when dodging near someone. But it doesn't stop there. It breaks aim assist and tracking. Before you make the argument you need aa to get a kill funny you to need to remove my aa as you keep yours to get an advantage over an opposing player. It also breaks tracking on an assortment of things. Skip nades Axion bolts Melees Stormcallers super Jotunn Arc web Feedback fence Dunemarchers Dodge also grants immunity frames to melees during the animation of dodge. Even when it clearly registers they take no damage. First melee will hit or just wiff as bungie fails to acknowledge how bad melees are. The second melee won't do damage during the dodge animation and afterwards you follow up for a 3rd melee. 4th melee if they run bottom tree arcstrider which grants 32% damage resistance or even worm husk. The list goes on all for doing nothing but double pressing a button. No its not on par with blink or icarus dash by a long shot. Theres no built in advantages to them like hidden effects and support exotics to make it better. Blink sucks without Astrocythe and icarus doesn't need a support exotic. While rift has the longest cooldown, animation and its effects aren't instant. Which is easy to shutdown effortlessly as is well which is a ramped up version of rift. As barricade is on 14 second cooldown rather fast animation. Can tank an assortment of things. Balance out dodge or make barricade and rift on par with dodge.

    So hunter mains are just gonna have to sit here ans take it you mean? Not allowed to defend one of our two lifelines in the Crucible? Just want to point out a few misconceptions in your list there: Hunter dodge breaks the snappiness of your opponents aim, which really only works against controllers since MnK doesn't get that kind of stickiness. It breaks tracking to an extent - arc- or firebolt grenades for example are quite strict on the timing, made worse by the horrendous lag. Makes it tough to evade consistently. But thirdly and most notably - melees are quite unaffected by the dodge, you just have to keep your view on them and be within range. Dodges are evasive maneuvers trying to get out of harm's way. It does not grant any form of invincibility at all - if bullets, melees, explosions or anything that deals damage connect with the hitbox, it will deal damage. The mysterious invincibility you claim is just poor hit detection or lag playing you. The only time hunters get any defense mid-dodge is by bottom-tree Arcstrider, which only grants extra resistance. It doesn't give you a roll on a slot machine to see if a hit deals damage or not.

      • I could say the same thing about one shot melees “Wah! They’re overpowered!” So is everything else. I’ve learned to deal with it, you should too

        Dodge doesn't do anything to break the game. Being evasive is the Hunter's flavor as a class. Don't hate what's good. Hate Bungie's slowness to buff things that need help.

          • It’s the strongest “selfish” class ability in game. But good barricade and rift use has much more affect on the outcome of a game than hunter dodges. Every scrim/tourney player in existence knows this . Warlocks and titans ALWAYS compare their class abilities to the hunter dodge in a way that ignores the fact that dodge does nothing for your team. No shit dodge is better in 1v1 situations. It’s all it can do. Furthermore, just the fact that you think Icarus dash can’t compare shows what you know. Icarus dash alone is enough to make top tree dawnblade far and away the best subclass in game. Maybe it’s different on console where the lack of MnK input and a smaller fov makes hunter dodgers stronger by Proxy but that is the truth on PC

            • Hunter here, don't play much pvp, so i don't really care if its broken or not. Just like when pve people crying about having to play pvp to do exotic quests , which I also don't care about.

              • Dodge is really just broken on bottom arcstrider. Mid dodge you get your damage intake basically halved, and focused breathing lets you get it back in 10 seconds. Between those two perks it is significantly more potent on that tree than any other.

                • It's the frequency in which they can dodge I believe to be the problem. Having it for every engagement is a joke. Doubling the cooldown time would go a long way to making the user have to think about using it and not just spam their get out of jail free card every 10 seconds.

                  • *barricades and gets free revives in trials* *dodges to get revive and gets left standing with your pants down* Ik this is an oversimplification but if you are capable of tracking a hunter out of their dodge it is very easy to get the upper hand on one because they can’t immediately shoot after the dodge

                    • I played titan since d1, swapped to hunter main this season. Dodge is not broken, it's called dodge for a reason, you know, to dodge shit. Rift heals, baricade blocks damage, if you stop the dodge from being able to dodge whats the point? Play to the class you are, use a baricade for area control, rift works well for area control aswell, used effectively both rift and baricade are great for pushing and holding a team in spawn, ie map control. The only utility dodge has is DODGING, well, that and a reload. If my friends still played i never would have swithed from titan because when you play as a team hunter isn't even on the same level.

                        • Hunter mains get upset anytime this is brought up because a nerf to dodge would change the entire way they have to play the game. They’d have to actually acknowledge the risk/reward aspect of PvP and make smart decisions. In other words, they’d be on an even playing field with everyone else.
