Yes because blade barrage and nova warp 2.0 - icy versions are so much more unique? To be fair there’s really only a handful of ability classes you can make that don’t break the game. Destruction, suppression, support And you can really only manifest these with melee based, projectile based, or area-of-effect based abilities And if you think about superhero comics, that’s the typical way powers are designed...more exotic powers like super speed, necromancy, transformation, and such wouldn’t fit well into this current game. I mean icaruslocks essentially have super speed and they’re annoying as -blam!- and super broken on PC. I hear a lot of complaining about the supers, but I haven’t seen one person give any unique ideas that wouldn’t be alterations to what currently exists. At least with stasis, bungie is leaning into combos of slow, freeze, and shatter which is a new concept in destiny

    Man, I forgot that nova warp had a two stage attack. Freeze/prime and then shatter/detonate. [spoiler]The warlock super is completely different than nova warp. The hunter one is an instant super, so they’re all going to be similar. It’s closer to tether than BB[/spoiler]

    Conceptually the supers are basically the exact same...a roaming super that has an area of effect explosion/detonation centered around the player. Nova warp is charge up/explode...shadebinder is freeze with projectile then detonate when in range Now if shadebinder doesn’t have to be in range to detonate frozen enemies and simply activating the Crystal made any frozen enemy explode that’d be different...but it in all the trailers they have to be next to the targets, just like nova warp, to actually kill My overall point though is to say stop giving a shit about the similarities to other pre-existing supers....there is only so much you can do that fits within the scope of this game. Bungie is showing innovation with the combo nature of the supers and the introduction of augmentation to abilities that are exotic-tier changes...that’s what people should be focusing on

  • Having an AoE attack doesn’t make them conceptually the same. If that was the case then nova warp would just be conceptually the same as fist of havoc. New warlock super doesn’t teleport, it doesn’t charge, it has a ranged freeze attack and it’s AoE shatters. Similarities- roaming super with some form of AoE. Differences- literally everything else.

  • Because it’s easier to generate [i]heat[/i] than it is to create [i]light.[/i]. IOW it’s easier for people to complain than to offer workable solutions. Other thing is that people forget that the classes have design themes that have to be respected. Titans are aggressive, melee-based characters, as well as defenders of the City. So all of their abilities are based around close-combat, melee combat and area-defense. Anything else is a deviation from the lore and what Titans are supposed to be.
