-
The knife pierces his skin, and Elann immediately drops his sword and pulls his hand away in a caress. He yelps in pain. His men behind him step back, suddenly aware of the danger that they are in beneath the daggers.
-
The men scurry off back into the woods. Cara looks up at Luck and then at the blades overhead. She carefully steps out from under their shadows before answering. “I’m all right. They didn’t take any o’ my tings...” She gives a token glance into her bag as though to make sure. The she sighs, pulling herself together after being shaken by the assault. She points towards the knives. “How did you do that?”
-
Luck begins collecting the blades as they fall into his hands. “The knives themselves are enchanted to never fall until I prompt them. As for falling on top of that guy... well, I’m just a little lucky. By the way, where exactly are we? Is there magic at all in this land?”
-
“We are just outside a small town of modest people. We get strangers passin’ through with even stranger stories comin’ with ‘em all the time, but... rarely do we witness ‘em. And it’s just luck, ye say?” She watches him gather his knives.
-
Luck stairs off into the woods. “...Maybe. There’s a certain breed of folk who draw the unnatural, no matter who or where they are. Considering I showed up in a forest for a bandit attack, maybe you’re one of them.”
-
She nods in thought. “Perhaps. Well, I don’ have much, so I’m not sure if I can repay ye. But if ye ever pass through here again, don’ be a stranger. I could offer ye a free cup or two o’ whatever ye want at the inn.”
