What part of this event is supposed to be "fun"?

I'm curious. Because other than some very grindy bounties and triumphs, I am not seeing anything associated with the event that actually adds something "fun" to the game. There is no real benefit to being "in the lead". There is no long term benefit to "winning"? And the only thing worth acquiring is put behind a a pretty steep grind, with time gated triumphs. How is any of this "fun"? Understand, I am asking the question. Not making a judgement one way or another. I am not likely to finish the triumphs based on the time I have been able to play during the event. I likely won't get the exotic(though I usually do get "everything" during such events. But this one? It's possible, but also very unlikely at this point. So I am wondering. When they have a meeting deciding on what to add. What people are going to be doing. Who sit's there and thinks that any of what has been added is actually "fun". Not just doable. But, "wow, I can't wait to play tonight" fun. Shouldn't that be the first thing that they attempt to add during an event? The seasonal artifact. A grind. The bunkers. Again, doable, but also, quite grindy. First season this year where I don't care about any of the rewards. Hell I don't even know what you get for unlocking the Io bunker. And I don't even bother doing the other weapon grinds anymore. I don't see a point to them. I am really curious as to the thought process behind such things. Whole season is a big step backwards.
