I see what you are saying...
But d2s power fantasy is good.
Far above d1.
D2s content sucks and their loot farming options are scarce.
Raids are too mechanical heavy putting too much pressure on all players in a team.
^ this is where your power fantasy claim is true.. as we grind our way through the challenging end game content and grew our power and loot in d1 that is designed to manhandle said endgame.. it was fun to just get a couple of randoms and take them through a raid and feel all cool because we manhandle as they are going through the learning curve and struggle.. then the talking about the about the loot that they hope to get etc...
So you are right, but for the overall game, we are too strong in d2 for the core grind.. average to below average with endgame content according to which one was not effected by bungies magical power advantage system that is not consistent at all...
and yeah..
I was ocd-ing on some specific weapons that I could farm and then it hit me.. not only are there not many options.. some of the hoops you have to jump through like on the moon is just not enticing or fun.

The truth. When everything is so mechanic heavy you don’t really see your players power. There are also far less carry rolls in D2 like Running sword or relic. But the whole get the loot and use the loot to get more loot/help players get it is the D1 loop everyone misses so much. The problem is the game will never be that again. Because it lead to the class system that was D1 and the at system had 0 casual support or appeal at all.

☝️100% And to fair... the drought is making us, as fans, articulate this better... You have to admit.. with all the negative posts over the life of this game.. I hardly ever see people hitting the nail on the head with what is off with d2. See glimpses... But your post just nailed.

Let me give you two very specific examples that I think you’ll love for example porn. 1. Skolas. Week 1 was G Horn. Have your G Horn, G Horn require, nuke him only way to get the clear. Week 2 was Void. No one could figure it out until the High - Impact void sniper strat came around. My buddy had a void Long Bow and a spare etheric light, I had a void her benevolence and etheric light. We must have taken 10 people through that week. True sherpas because there was a legit gear requirement like a true RPG. 2. Oryx on launch day. No one could figure out how to consistently stun him. We realized that it took all of us running high impact snipers to stun him because no one in the game was at light at that time. Same with Golgoroth. The whole game use to be a gear check so getting the gear and where you got it from were extremely important activities. Basically the whole game was must have Izzy. But there were no guaranteed drops so you just played the game all the time trying to become an all powerful god slayer and Sherpa.
