https://www.gamesradar.com/the-new-destiny-2-seasonal-model-is-removing-the-reasons-i-play-the-game/ Edit.. Lots of really interesting responses. Quick question for anyone reading this.. anyone want to join me in putting together a raid team for Saturday or Sunday mornings and commit to that weekly?

  • The point about power being irrelevant is probably the biggest reason why I stopped playing. It just doesn’t really matter anymore. Aside from loot, which just isn’t that great any more, the power grind was my biggest driver in the game and kept me grinding away. Sure, I love how Destiny feels when I’m running, shooting and jumping, but the main thrust was making those numbers bigger. Now with seasons, the number goes up every few months, but there’s no real reason to keep reaching it other than to clear the arbitrary power gates Bungie throws in. So my reason to play is diminished, and I stop caring about bounties and activities (they’re too repetitive and boring anyway). Throw in the fact that everything resets at the beginning of the next season and nothing you did previously matters anymore, and i just lose interest completely. I want to feel like I’m moving the World story along in a meaningful, permanent way through events that feel impactful, but instead we get the Undying Mind catastrophe and Saint 14 returning as a bounty vendor. Step it up, Bungie. You’re killing this game with mediocre updates. Make it matter again.

    • Yep it’s basically disposable content, I tried to get on board with it when I first seen what was happening but apart from just jumping on to shoot sh1t there’s not much point. I said in another post the drip feed content thing is actually good (my opinion) bungie just need to do better at implementing it, like getting rid of all the seasonal sh1t. I’m starting to think destiny has become some kind of AAA mobile game but on a console.

Saw this earlier. I totally agree. The FOMO gameplay model was real as soon as Curse of Osiris dropped, but it seems they've doubled down with Seasons. It's driving more people away than hooking players in.

Destiny seems to have lost sight of what it is. I’ll continue to beat this horse until I can squeeze it out of a bottle of Elmer’s glue, but Bungie continues to neglect the vision they had prior to the launch of the first game. The world lacks meaning. You don’t feel like you’re a part of the universe. The more arcade-y the game becomes the less impactful the activities become. There’s no RPG element, no character building, no paths to build a story. Loot is bland enough as it is, and they’re coming up with more and more ways to strip that loot of its significance.

          • Agreed, I said it months ago, seasons won’t work in destiny. Just bc it works for crap like fort nite doesn’t mean it will for our precious. I started this season with the goal of hitting light lvl 1000..... I hit 970 base on all 3 toons and ran enough bounties to hit +17 bonus and 175 on seasonal page but for what? I hate my builds and not going to waste rest of season building what I like or am basically forced to use( talking about grinding for good rolls on anti barrier etc weapons) just to have it change in 45 days. Worst part is we next to never get what we want for perks on weapons or affinity and stats on armor. Maybe it’s time to allow crafting so we can choose what we want to run vs Bungie creating these bs requirements that take the fun out of it. Another reason I’m sick of it, sick of Bungie telling me what weapons to use for something as simple as a friggin nightfall. I’d like to run my own setup of choice and not have to use dual pos primaries.

            • Basically all the reasons I stopped playing. Since Season of the Yawn and yet another boring horde mode, coupled with a story line that promised much of Saint 14 and delivered nothing like peoples expectations, I see any time spent in game just now as a total waste of my effort. There is nothing I want to do and what there is to do is either boring, unrewarding or both. The final straw for me was the sheer greed of Eververse and a story that makes no sense and comes across as being written by people who have zero personality or willing to really explore the story. At every turn it looks like they created something and went "Yeah, that'll do" .. and I genuinely believe that Dev's are being held back by management. In fact a look at Glassdoor reviews of Bungie pretty much confirm it. Here's what's Destiny is missing. I have been playing the Witcher 3 the last couple of weeks and took on what seemed a minor quest, just a guy wanting me to get a Black Pearl for his wife. While doing the story I literally walked past the guy waiting for me near a beach and I thought what the hell, lets get this out of the way. Swam out and got a Black Pearl. Guy says he doesn't have the money and he'll met you later. When you meet up you ask him if his wife is happy with the pearl he sadly says he isn't sure because she barely recognises him anymore and cant remember most of their life together. The guy was trying to cheer his wife up because she has clearly has a form of Dementia. You are left to realise this. I felt bad for ignoring him for so long. Just a minor quest with a lot of impact that was clearly designed to induce feels. Destiny has none of that. Saint 14 stands in a hangar selling four bounties. None of the NPC's have any charisma, flaws or anything that makes you like or dislike them. They just stand there wibbling away. Tess Everis dribbling on just grates. If I want an armour set In Witcher 3 I go get the diagram, find the materials and get a craftsmen to craft it. I can then upgrade it to the next level as I rank up to that level until it is mastercrafted. And each Witcher set gives you a benefit. And each one is different, light armour, heavy armour etc etc. As you explore for armour you end you getting dragged in to other quests and missions. It feels immersive and you find armour while doing tasks, you find tasks while chasing armour. I enjoy it. Not once am I asked to kill 50 drowners with a certain steel sword at two in the morning. Not once am I told you must use this sign in this mission, you are given a wide range of abilities and armour and its up to you how you do it. I spent two hours just mucking about with sign builds. You can tell the Dev's were allowed to explore their creativity and make sure that as you play and invest time you genuinely get more powerful. But the control system in Witcher 3 is clunky as hell, we all know that no game is perfect. They all have faults but Destiny is now so buggy, so bland, so predictable and unrewarding that it is now just a shop front with the seasons being used to sell things that should be in the game. There is a lot to admire in Destiny in the design and art but its like a Ferrari being used as a tractor. I have zero wish to play these days as I feel I am being fed the least amount required to get me to pay Eververse for nice things. Who really wants to run the Sundial four times each on three characters when all you get are the same weapons you got last week ?? .. That's like practising bleeding. I'm not wasting my time doing that. Its going to take an effort I don't think Bungie are willing to make. All this crap about how making content is hard, CDPR didn't do that. They sat down and made the best game they could while respecting the player. Blood and Wine is simply epic and it cost £15 when it launched. And Bungie want £10 for Season of the Yawn ?? .. Jog on. Until Bungie make some serious changes, while listening to their players and working with them, this game is going to continue to nose dive. In my mind I have already basically said goodbye. And that's pretty sad.

              • Normally I would come into a thread like this just to start some crap about people simply agreeing with some guy because he has a platform to speak from (gaming site, youtuber, Twitch, etc...). I've read it down to "What else is there to do?" and now have to go to work. Then I'll read the rest but in the meantime I just wanted to say that dude has pretty much nailed what I've been recently thinking. A buddy of mine keeps trying to get me into activities for Pinnacles and I keep thinking "For what? The extra level of them isn't going to mean shit in a few weeks".

This season is far, far better than Undying. Actual cinematic story quests. Actual lore. Twice as many new weapons. An amazing new character to the game. A horde mode that isn’t Menagerie good but is also better than Vex Offensive. A large puzzle that the community worked on (despite having an underwhelming reward). Two EASY exotic quests. And still more to come. I don’t understand why there’s all this whining about this season, as if they forgot just how bad last season was. Shadowkeep was a terrible expansion. The story was far shorter than Forsaken, yet was priced the same. Sure we got Pit of Heresy, but is that really enough? Season of the Undying had next to nothing that was really exciting content. Outside of GoS, what else was actually interesting to do? This current season has much more to do. However, after this season, who knows. The seasonal disappearing content is just a bad idea, and I do have to agree that something needs to be changed. Edit: Not to mention all the OTHER issues with the game, such as “rewards,” PvP, Class Balancing, and many more other bugs and issues.

The best expansion has been menagerie. I still play that content to try and get god rolls on weapons that I don’t have god rolls on yet. That article is spot on. I bought the season pass but haven’t done much besides play pvp this season. Oh and play menagerie. I played comp this season to finally unlock the unbroken title. Iron banner is pretty useless as well because no new weapons no new armor and like the article said pinnacle power level increase means nothing. Why do any pinnacle stuff when you can just increase your power level with the artifact.

                      • The majority of the player base has already said what's not working in D2. Ranging from really not working to could be better. The REAL problem is that Bungie doesn't know this themselves or has no real incentive to change. And I seriously doubt we'll get a Y1 "Go Fast" update to help better this game. We'll probably get a couple more "that's cool" moments immediately followed by a "that's it.... WTH was that?"

                      • Didn’t read the article, but reading the comments, I get the direction. My experience is similar. Today I ran the Kingship Dock lost sector over and over again to complete the “kill 300 scorn” bounty. That’s not me just having fun playing, that’s me grinding a bounty. Sucks big time. What happened to the good ol D1 STRIKE SPECIFIC LOOT - not Nightfall Specific loot. I’d love to run strike playlists over and over for potential drops of those special weapons. Let Nightfall be the only location where it will drop at higher power levels and fully masterworked.

You know what’s really not working at Bungie Their eyes & ears! They simply just don’t care about the premise of the Destiny universe as it was presented in D1, or the loyal playerbase that just want the game to realise it’s potential

                          • I agree with everything in that article, spot on. I've completely lost interest in D2. A big part of it is the soft reset every 3 months, and Bungie dictating our loadouts for those three months by chosing which weapons can break barriers and stun unstoppables. I'm sure I'll logon again at some point, but, things have to change for it to be more than a logon.

                          • I was losing interest in the game, but I decided to buckle down and start lfg'ing for Raids since I haven't done one since Leviathan. In 3 days I've done the boss for SotP, got Anarchy and done the first 3 encounters of each GoS and CoS. It's been a lot of fun. A lot of frustration, but not enough to outweigh the fun.

                              • Five years... I’m at the point that I just think Bungie is in a no win situation. Players want to chase that feeling they had in D1 when a new exotic quest just randomly showed up or some rare rare weapon or roll. But they also complained that loot was too few and far between and they didn’t feel like they were progressing... so now loot drops like a dump truck turned over and people complain there isn’t enough to chase. One thing the guy in the article acknowledged was that there is no way Bungie can create enough content to satisfy players that dump 8 hrs a day into a game. Not saying that there are things Bungie couldn’t do to improve the game but it’s in a really good place at the moment (minus crucible which is really hurting). There is a ton to do. I just grinded out mountaintop minus 80 glory that I’m letting reset get me because crucible is so wonky at the moment. Was thinking to go back and start working on master nightmare hunts because I really didn’t touch nightmare hunts last season. Was going to help a buddy get caught up to my progress on izanagi so we can run the strike. I’m constantly looking at things I can find lore wise to hunt for. Haven’t done a raid since original leviathan and considered looking a for a random team to try those out because my clan disappeared while I was out of the game for six months with cancer treatments. And for those that complain that there is not a lot of variety to gameplay and that we are always just facing horde modes... it’s a shooter. There is only so much variety a shooter can provide mechanics wise.
