Rush is actually really good
I've always liked Rush the band but I always saw their music as inferior to other acts like Dream Theater and more modern prog. But since Neil died, I decided to look into their discography and listen to some albums. As I write this post I am finishing up Permanent Waves and I've been really enjoying what I have been hearing. This says alot since usually older music can't hold a candle to newer music and this music is really competing with alot of what I listen to. The magic of Rush I suppose. Go listen to Rush if you haven't you swine
Edit 1: Alot of people are talking about my line here: "older music can't hold a candle to newer music."
This was not meant as a total write off of older music. My idea here is that brilliant writing will always be brilliant. But when it comes to technology and techniques, that stuff is always advancing so rapidly. So a brilliant writer (say Rush) with 3 techniques (probably not what they had, but just using it as an example) will always beat a stupid writer (some generic pop star) with 10 techniques. But that same brilliant writer will not be able to beat an equally brilliant writer (say Dream Theater) with 10 techniques because that brilliant writer has more at their disposal to create sounds

I don't know anything about Rush but so many people look at One Direction and write off the last few decades as inferior to the 60s, 70s and 80s when music is mostly so much better in the 90s, 2000s and today. Obviously there are exceptions but I'd take the 2010s over the 1960s any day.

3 답변2112 is their best album. Neil Peart is the third best drummer of all time behind John Bonham and Keith Moon. I'm so glad I got to see them live 4-5 years ago. Was an absolutely phenomenal concert and Neil -blam!-in killed it.

1 답변Lost me at “usually older music blah blah blah”. Let’s take a look at one of Rush’s more popular songs. Tom Sawyer. Now let’s look at what’s number 1 on the charts today.... Post Malone, Circles... Is there a comparison really? I actually like Post as a person, (seems like a humble dude, who genuinely loves all music) but you can’t compare the musicality and craftsmanship.

The 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s will forever reign supreme in all musical genres except classical. Rush is good though. You might enjoy Triumph as well. [spoiler]Sorry, all out of salt.[/spoiler]

2 답변Have to agree. Got to listen to more of their stuff recently when I was able to play my dad’s (who is a big Rush fan) records and they have some good stuff!

[/quote] Again....disagree. Newer music is simply what you are USED to hearing...and Dream Theater is an historic band in their own right. Plus newer music tends to BUILD upon what the musicians learned from older acts. Then--in rock music---there is the issue of advances in music technology. But at the end of the day, good music is TIMELESS. Because it has the power to touch something in us that is also timeless. [i]Permanent Waves[/i] was the first record that I bought with my own money back in 1980. I fell in love with The Spirit of Radio and absolutely had to have it. ...and 40 years later, that music still speaks to you. Which is---ironically---part of what Neil Peart was speaking about in The Spirit of Radio...and how it can be lost if other agendas come into play. 2 답변Every album they have has gone platinum (last I checked years ago) and the radio only plays 2 songs.
