So here are my thoughts. Maybe some of you agree with some of this.
Grinding for elusive exotics was fun for several years in D1. At that time grinding was enough to make up for a nonexistent story line, mediocre character development and the compromises imposed by combining PVP and PVE. As D2 has unfolded though, grinding has gotten old and the trade offs imposed by insisting that PVP and PVE be combined in one game have resulted in a community where it seems the complaints never stop. Sure there are plenty of folks who are really happy with where the game is now, but the game is enjoying an adrenaline rush of new players due to the new "free to play" format of older content Bungie has rolled out. Face it. If the grind was fun, Bungie wouldn't have to offer a level up for money option. If leveling up your character isn't supposed to be part of the fun, and it's NOT fun, then what state is the game in?
The engine and the mechanics are solid and worth building on. So, my suggestions:
1. Bungie cut its teeth on Halo. Good storylines. Great voice acting. Characters you cared about and technically excellent in its day. That's the substance that makes the grind fun. A game in my opinion HAS to have more and this is the stuff that make the grind interesting and worth doing.
2. Destiny needs a "True Vault Hunter Mode" so players can take a fully leveled up character and replay the campaign. It's a great way to extend the life of existing content and GearBox has done this beautifully by scaling the challenge, and the reward, to the higher level of the repeat player. No one wants to start at base level to replay a campaign. This is a missed opportunity for a company trying to come up with new content for an audience that consumes it at a ridiculous pace.
3. It seems clear that there are PVP players and PVE players. What happens if you break them out into two different games? My bet is that each could be tuned to suit the needs and wants of each audience. In addition, it would be a separate title that would have its own audience and generate its own revenue. By definition, PVP doesn't need much of a storyline so resource can be focused on catering to the things that audience wants without worrying about balancing with the PVP side. Just seems obvious to me.
My experience over the last several years of D2 is that in trying to be everything to everyone the game has evolved, out of financial necessity and the resource and time required to develop good content, to suit the "mean": some real highs, some real lows but on average just "meh" as someone else on this forum described it. Compare that with the Halo experience that launched a company.
Sometimes you have to go back to where it all started to recapture the innovation and excitement that keeps a franchise fresh and moving forward. I just can't do grind anymore. Offering level up for cash proves Bungie is aware that the grind is so boring people will pay to skip it. It might even be this way purposefully to generate revenue. I recognize Bungie is in the middle of a reorganization and these things are expensive and time consuming. But what's the alternative.

Tbh, I really hope they don't make a destiny 3. Until they get this destiny under control and done better, then I won't trust them in making another one.
The darkzone of the division
Massive pve encounters where the whole server jumps in to help
Loot that matters
Actual new content and not reskinned or retreads
Equip multiple exotics
Trading
New powers
Honestly if they made it mature with actual hard content not some racing against the clock recipe they’ve been using awhile and definitely a new game engine and hopefully that clown Luke smith gets moved out
My D3 pipe dream would have a different Sr Management at the helm.
Only 1x per year would employees be able to wear their pyjamas to work.
Focus would be on making a game that players want to play and allowing them options on how they want to play it.
I would totally replace the entire Community Relations/Management team and have individuals in place that are active in game, play the game on a regular basis with the player base on multiple platforms, and communicate clearly and consistently with the players.
I would have Open Forums with the player base and respond to the feedback and not ignore it.
I’d take 5 plus years to make the game to ensure that the majority of bugs and glitches have been removed prior to release.
