I just want to say this. I’m not gonna preach to you or convert you or anything, but if you knew that there was a God, and that everyone was going suffer unimaginable and eternal torment in Hell when they died, and you had the key to save them, wouldn’t you do something about it? I mean, I wouldn’t wish that on my worse enemy, much less the ones I care about.
Yes, there are some people who use religion (sometimes Christianity) as a way to con people out of their money. There are some hypocrites. That isn’t indicative of all Christians.
What I’m trying to say is, don’t get offended if people try to convert you. If they truly believe that there is a place called He’ll and you were heading straight for it when you died, then you should expect them to want to save you. You don’t have to accept it, or even believe it. Just decline and move on. Don’t be rude about it.
Because in doing so, you actually prove them right.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk. Please keep the comments civil.

It seems like a pretty boring but obvious point that "yeah but I really, really, super-duper-positively think I'm right" does not immunize you from the consequences of trying to convert people to anything you believe. Religion is not unique in threatening an apocalypse if you don't follow it; just the other day, I (correctly) argued that the world would end if our lunch group went to only the second-best taco stand in the area instead of the best one.

19 답변작성자: Strawberry Pop-Tart 11/2/2019 4:07:39 AMIf you read the Bible you would know that it doesn't support the existence of Hell Collier’s Encyclopedia (1986, Vol. 12, p. 28) says concerning “Hell”: “First it stands for the Hebrew Sheol of the Old Testament and the Greek Hades of the Septuagint and New Testament. Since Sheol in Old Testament times referred simply to the abode of the dead and suggested no moral distinctions, the word ‘hell,’ as understood today, is not a happy translation ”It is, in fact, because of the way that the word “hell” is understood today that it is such an unsatisfactory translation of original Bible words. Webster’s Third New International Dictionary, unabridged, under “Hell” says: “fr[om] . . . helan to conceal.” The word “hell” thus originally conveyed no thought of heat or torment but simply of a ‘covered over or concealed place.’ In the old English dialect the expression “helling potatoes” meant, not to roast them, but simply to place the potatoes in the ground or in a cellar.

27 답변1. One, How do you KNOW that you are in possession of the Truth-With-A-Capital T? The Living don't know for sure....and the dead aren't telling. 2. Even if you were in possession of the Truth, how do you know YOUR understanding of it is correct? 3. Even if you ewre in possession of the Truth, and the correct understanding of it....what makes you think that God wants you to deprive others of their freedom of choice (Free Will) and impose your views on them. Remember that Jesus told His Apostles that when they found villages that were not open to hearing the Gospel, that they should simply leave those people ALONE and move on. We do not have a CULTURE problem in theis country....we have an INTERPERSONAL BOUNDARIES problem. Too many people who think they're right.....spending too much time telling other people how to live. Like Jesus taught. If someone is doing something you think is wrong, that's between them and God....and really isn't your business.

작성자: themirror2man 11/3/2019 1:34:33 PMSo Jesus is going along with his buddies and hears a story about a lunatic👈 cutting himself up amongst the tombstones(which is what the prophets of Baal did). So as Jesus is going towards the place the man runs up to him and begs him to not cast the 😈 out of the area... And assumingly the man. Anywhoo, Jesus ask him..(and this is really important folks...) Yo man... Whats yo name. The crazy man says "LEGION"👈👈😳 for WE👈 are many... Many huh? Anywhoo the story goes on... What? Youve heard this tale? Well not from a jedi... Oh wait imv getting off track. So long story short, Jesus tell the demon? Wait legion is a demon? Ok... He tells the demon to go into pigs. Thats right folks. Bacon. Nono... Bacon cant be bad, its live pigs(who we do know who acts like pigs?) And those pigs run to the lake and drowned themselves. Wow. So my man Jesus starts a walking away gets about a mile or so down the road and you know what? Them evil pigs come up outta that water like The Walking Dead and go back to that place... Cuz demons dont die. Whats the moral of the story? You ask? Legion becomes Re-legion👈 the minute Jesus goes away. No one has a problem with the Man i think. Who would? Dood supposedly healed folk, hung out with folk even to the day of his departure. What some have a problem with i think is... F$$king RE-LEGION! Crazy ass self mutilating piggy people who are never wrong and cant wait for the man to leave so They can start being crazy again.

2 답변I mean. If they believe you at going to hell and they don’t try to convert you. Doesn’t that make them a jerk?

작성자: Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds 11/3/2019 2:23:17 PMI don’t get “offended”, but I have to say that I personally feel the need to criticize bad ideas when they encroach into my personal space or into space that affects the lives of everyone. I don’t see myself changing in that regard. I would say “live and let live” but that’s the problem. The belief exists in a way in which it doesn’t adhere to that. It claims fundamentals about existence and people fear the actions of everyone will affect them. It does not justify their behavior, which I generally find to be rude. I also enjoy the debate too if one wishes to engage.

I'd politely turn them away to begin with, if they continued I'd warn them if they wanted a discussion I'm happy to talk, but they might not like what I say. Most leave by then, if they don't then I'm fine to challenge their views. I'd never go to a religious person and start the debate tho. I think the last time anyone tried was a random guy stopped me in the street, I thought he needed the time or directions, no. He asked me if I'd heard of Jesus. I didn't have time, I just laughed and said not now bud. 😂

20 답변Or, ya know, since he is "God", he could just not be a jerk and let everyone go to heaven. Sounds rather cruel to send someone to an eternity of suffering. Doesn't sound like a God I would want to worship

127 답변
if you knew that there was a God, and that everyone was going suffer unimaginable and eternal torment in Hell when they died,
First off Homeschool, you don’t “know” anything. Have you met god? Have you exchanged words in person? You claim you know something you don’t know. Congratulations you read a book! Now I know Harry Potter is real because a book told me so! By hell Homeschool you need get your head out of your ass.
you had the key to save them, wouldn’t you do something about it?
You know what irks me about this, if the shoe was on the other foot you wouldn’t be arguing this. Your book isn’t “saving” anyone. If anything it’s doing the opposite. By choosing to believe in religion you restrict your thinking to only one thing, and that is the Bible. When reading the Bible you will be told of these tales meant to suppress independent thought and to make you fear what happens if you stray away. It’s fear mongering. “Oooh if you don’t believe in our god you’ll burn with the devil oooh!” “Oooh you won’t go to heaven if you don’t do as our book says oooh!” The people who put it together wanted to control the people so they could stay in power. Humans want power, they’ll do anything to get it. Oh no! By not believing in god, the devil is out to get me! Oh no! -blam!- off with that bullshit.
What I’m trying to say is, don’t get offended if people try to convert you.
I can and I will. By trying to convert me they are openly disrespecting my beliefs. By trying to force something on me, you’re disrespecting me and my beliefs. If someone comes up to my door trying to convert me, I’m going to say that I’m going to put my foot so far up their ass they’re boyfriend can’t hump it anymore. Why? Because eff you. If one of those “feminists” you see on the internet came up to you and started to do their thing, you’d see where I’m coming from.
If they truly believe that there is a place called He’ll and you were heading straight for it when you died, then you should expect them to want to save you.
Oh yes, so these kind people want to save me, because they fear for my happiness. But they’re the same people to deny a man to marry another man despite the fact they’d both be happy. Congratulations! You’re a idiot!
Don’t be rude about it.
No. If they come onto my property, disrupt my day, bother me while I’m doing a task, I am most definitely going to be rude about it.
Because in doing so, you actually prove them right.
Once again, Homeschool, you’re wrong. By being preaching assholes, they’re proving their religion is a bunch of nonsense with a bunch of hypocritical followers. “Oooh ooh oooh don’t be an asshole to us oooh ooh ooh!” And then you go on to be a prick by saying “Oooh ooh you’ll burn in hell for not accepting gods word oooh ooh!” DO YOU EVEN REALIZE HOW HYPOCRITICAL YOU’RE BEING! This is where I put the final nail into my notification’s coffin. If you need a book to tell you what to believe, how to think, your morals, what you should learn, what to do, etc. You are a weak person who is nothing better than a sheep who follows whatever the shepherd tells him. I don’t have enough time to elaborate on everything, get over it. I’m talking directly to you Homeschool, Giant, whatever the hell you want to call yourself. Anyone else will most likely receive a condescending reply from me. Do you understand that knights templar?

I understand 100%. They believe wholeheartedly that there’s heaven and hell, and they believe that they’re helping people to choose the former. The problem is that they have no way of demonstrating that they are correct. It seems that unwarranted threats or promises mean more than proving that they’re correct. Fear matters more than truth or logic for these people, it seems.

7 답변작성자: Uncanny_Vale 10/30/2019 1:25:12 PMIf you lived in a Muslim country and they were constantly trying to convert you to Islam do you think that would get a little annoying after a while? I’m fine with religious people believing whatever they like. Just keep it to yourself and I’ll keep my non-belief to myself. As far as the hell thing goes you may believe in hell but you’ve got to understand non-believers don’t believe it’s a real place - telling us we are going to hell means nothing to us. If I said you were going to the Greek underworld of Hades because you didn’t believe in Zeus would you be scared? I doubt you lie awake at night worrying about Hades right? Ditto with me and hell.

3 답변
I just want to say this. I’m not gonna preach to you or convert you or anything, but if you knew that there was a God
I'm gonna stop reading right there. You believe there is a God. You do not know there is a God. If believing in God encourages you to treat others with respect, help the needy, and generally be an upstanding member of your community congratulations you're doing what a lot of people do without being threatened by eternal damnation. If believing in God encourages you to chase other people down and harass them about their beliefs maybe you should reexamine what you believe is good.

12 답변There is a difference between people who ask you once and if you don't want to hear it, they back off. THEN you have the people who scream at you on the streets and shove it down your throat and yell at you. THOSE people need to calm down, because no one likes that, and it's not gonna help anyone
-
9 답변No. Why? Because I am not that large of an asshole. I will do what is right and folks can follow by example or not, that is why they are given free agency. If the only reason you are there is because you are scared of punishment, then you are not there for the right reasons and you can't buy your way into any Heaven. You do what is right because it is right, not because of a reward. If someone wants your message, then God will put them on the path to asking you about it.

14 답변To hate religion is to become the same thing you despise, a fanatic. I for one absolutely respect religion, it brings people together and teaches people proper behavior. However I still don't believe in any god or demon or spirit so naturally I just live life without fear of judgement from anyone other then the people around me Just because I don't believe in hell doesn't mean I don't believe in wrongful actions Just because I don't believe in God does not mean I don't believe in morality And most importantly, just because I don't believe in am afterlife does not mean I think those who do are idiots

11 답변The thing is, I dont want to believe in a god that would send me to hell for believing in evolution, I dont want to believe in a god that would just send all the gays to hell, because I know some very nice gay people. I dont mind religion, but I hate when it is weaponized.

Christianity is a faith of personal experience, NOT logic. Logic, archaeology, theories, this all is used to BACK UP your faith, but you don’t found your faith on it. From my experience, you can’t argue someone to believing in God, no matter how hard you try. There is no amount of logic, evidence, etc. that you can pull that will convince someone to believe in an all-powerful and all-knowing God that they themselves have not known. For another thing, coming to Christ in that way is almost invalid because of that. It’s not a love of Christ, it’s a fear of what happens if you don’t follow Him or a factual belief, which is different from what Jesus called for: professing with your mouth that He is Lord. On the other hand, a much better way of leading someone to faith is by showing them who God is. Love, peace, joy, self-control, all that stuff. I’ve seen grown men staunch in their adamant hate of a God experience His power and quake, believing thereafter that there is a God, and progressing toward the second step that a lot of people unfortunately do end up forgetting about: declaring him Lord and loving him as your Father in Heaven. That’s not to say that there’s nothing you can do in a text format like these forums. A lot of the people I’ve seen saved were on Discord, not IRL. In a text format like this, all you can really do is patiently show others what a life by God looks like, through words only (which is challenging, not gonna lie). You walk your road of faith and hope that the others can see God’s word shining through your own. And if they don’t? You can’t exactly be in person to help them experience God personally like I said above, so there’s not much past that you can do. It sucks, but it is what it is.
