Why Aren't More Gamers Completing Raids????

I play Destiny 2 on Xbox and was looking at my Achievements the other night, mainly the ones I don't have yet. Here's some info for you: Belly of the Beast - Complete the Leviathan Raid. 12.86 percent of gamers have achieved this. The Prestige - Complete the Leviathan Raid on Prestige difficulty. 5.29 percent of gamers have achieved this. Wishing for the Best - Complete the "Last Wish" Raid. 3.87 percent of gamers have achieved this. Granted this info relates to Xbox only, but damn, look at the number of gamers that have completed the raids! Now we hear Bungie is making the raids "more" challenging. I'd imagine the percentage of gamers that complete the next rounds of raids to be even lower. I see questions in the forum all the time about "who" Bungie makes the raids for, I mean, it's pretty obvious with all the manufactured hype over "Worlds First" placed on newly launched raids. There's a post on the front page where OP suggests the raids need to have more mechanics in them, suggesting there were more mechanics in D1 than D2 raids. It looks like to me that adding "more" mechanics into a raid only lessens the potential for the core group of players to actually finish it. I'd venture a guess that most players don't have a ready group of above-average players to complete a raid with. I understand that the Raid is supposed to be mainly for the skilled end-game player, but damn. I assume Bungie puts a lot of time into development of the raids, only to have a sliver of the player base actually experience them. Bungie seems to have lost focus on which group of gamers make up the "majority" of their player base, and that's sad.

D2 raids just aren’t as good and the loot isn’t great so why bother? It’s also a lot of effort trying to get a solid team together who isn’t going to leave half way through especially if things go tits up. Shit rewards combined with toxic community puts people off.

  • D2 raids are lacking in fun and rewards.

  • Can’t speak for everyone but the reason I don’t raid is the gear just isn’t worth the effort. Leviathan was the only raid I did in D2 and got the guns I wanted, the armour was purely cosmetic when I ran it and wasn’t too happy with it. Last wish? Why run it when you can just do the chest and since random rolls exist for the raid gun why bother getting a nation of beasts when I have a kindled orchid that I’m very pleased with. Scourge of the past only thing I feel is worth getting is the No Feelings but the lfg is toxic in my opinion, need 50 completions, have the emblem, know the cheese to 1 phase the boss. Crown of sorrow I gave it a shot and only thing I really want is the hunter helm, plus getting guitared on the last phase pissed me off

  • Just too hard to get 6 on with time zones, different work schedules, family stuff. Plus most of us feel its just not worth the effort. No interest in using lfg sites either.

  • My clan fell out, so now it's mostly me and my wife. We used to LFG, but got tired of the unforgiving nature of the current raid designs. If someone dies, it's ultimately a wipe. You can't leave them dead because of the wipe timer, and even if you did, multiple encounters require everyone to play a role, like CoS swapping buffs. I wouldn't mind raid design with a psion running/flying around -blam!-ing us up with huge health pools and minimal mechanics outside of an arena-esque area that we had to be mobile and take cover and work him down over time while avoiding attacks and defending.

  • Because of a lack of team building options and unreasonable requirements. Also if you try to create tour own fireteam and are honest (e.g. Leviathan first run with little experience but have studied the videos) then be prepared for a long wait.

  • I haven't done a raid since my one and only prestige Leviathan completion and here's why: 1. The time it takes to run a raid with no assured reward drops for gear I need/want is a HUGE deterrent for me 2. I play PvP nearly exclusively. My acquired gun skill on how to shoot unpredictable enemies (other players) makes shooting stationary bosses, predictable adds, and free firing not enjoyable 3. LFG is bad. I can learn all raid mechanics watching YouTube vids and be able to enter a raid and run it no issue. Yet, I join LFG groups touting "experience" yet they constantly die, use inferior weaponry, and most important: FAIL AT COMMUNICATION. Destiny as a franchise has turned into more of a job than a hobby. From the tedious leveling to the "must haves", I don't have time to invest in Raids and extensive endgame activity. I know others may see this differently, but the larger base of this game is PVE, which is very boring to me currently.

  • This discussion needs to happen more often. Been playing since beginning of D1. Only completed one raid. Did failed lfgs since. I stopped playing FFXIV and played this game because of less mechanics memorization. The mechanics aren't fun in this game. It's less fps and more puzzle quest. It's a game not of intuition, but of memorizing someone's YouTube video

  • Sounds like they are listening to that 0.01% of players that want more challenging raid content. Slayerage and Datto spring to mind here. The majority of us just want to get through it, if we can be bothered. I must admit that i haven't bothered with the raids in D2 at all. I play casually and this just requires too much commitment. 3-6 hours in a pre organised group. Must have weapons and builds, set pieces though encounters that need 6 players doing different things at different times, like clockwork isn't my idea of fun. Being told what to shoot and how to shoot things isn't my idea of fun. Watching raid guides for the most efficient strats on each encounter every time there is a nerf, isn't my idea of fun. The fun left with Crota. Only the nerfs remain. We should be discovering the best way to play for us and having fun doing it

    • Why would anyone waste thier time grinding out a mindless unfun raids? Not like there is cool gear sets or weapons to get. There is just no drive for your average player to go through the whole st up for a raid to get poor quality stuff.

    • Having "sherpa'd" quite a few people I always hear about their horrible experiences with other people and I gotta say I try not to lfg anymore, not for lack of skill but because I'm tired of hearing the guys that think they're right (who are usually wrong) talk like they're in charge and everybody else better not fail them. Theres always uptight loudmouths and I can definitely understand why people dont want to learn in that environment, especially when someone like me who used to raid weekly and has them down definitely doesnt want to deal with those types of people anymore

    • Unpopular opinion. Random perks on raid guns killed it for me. Vault of glass, crota, kings fall, and wrath had static rolls but they brought unique perks and perk combination that were sought after. Leviathan guns I do want to get since they legitimately do have good guns like midnight coup, ghost primus, alone as a god, and the scout rifle I can’t remember the name of. That’s just me though, pretty sure a lot of people are going to disagree, once shadowkeep drops there is more reason to grind the previous raids since the armour is going to be updated

    • Honestly only read the title of your post and here’s why I haven’t done some of the raids: 1st. Well I wasn’t playing when Scourge of the past went live 2nd. Watched videos on last wish and it just doesn’t look fun in the slightest 3rd. Watched people two man crown of sorrow 1 day after it came out and so that doesn’t seem like it’d even be a challenge let alone fun The sad re occurring theme being D2 raids just aren’t as good or fun as D1 raids however I did find leviathan, eater of worlds and most of spire of stars quite enjoyable

    • Coming from an X raider.... The “Must have 10 completions on Day one of Said Raid” Community. They’re getting to be every bit as toxic as “PvP” players are said to be. The last straw for me was I was in an LFG group and a very well known completionist actually kicked someone for messing up ONE time. Things happen. Ppl really need to chill the Fck out. It’s a video game. They’re taking themselves was too seriously. It’s pathetic.

      • Finding a team isn’t as easy as it was in D1. Back then you would load in the tower and get 5 messages asking if you would like to raid. & now lfg wants you to be level 999 with 273773 clears on each raid. I created my own clan a few months ago and met some great people, I first did leviathan a few months ago. I went all the way to season of opulence without being able to raid. If it wasn’t for that, I still would have not been able to do anything.

      • 4/5 raid requirements cancel out most of the players, save for the ones who play every day, are max light, have meta PvE weapons etc. Rarely players who don’t meet these requirements have friends that carry them

      • I'll go back in and run D1 raids. But honestly I just don't have the time to spend nor desire to learning a D2 raids especially with other newbies and I hate being carried. Sure once I know the mechanics, timing communication, ect, raids are faster and fun but watching vids of D2 raids other then Leviathan ( the only raid I've ran from start to finish in D2) and I check out. I have ran legs of other raids to help out clan mates but that just made me hate them more. I'd kill to have D1 like raids back in and then devote a night to just running raids again. That was my funnest time of the week and often Sunday afternoons in D1 days. Oh and lets mention the rewards for running raids right now, other then a certain fusion rifle to many complain they can't get after more then a half a century of completions, why bother?

        • Some posts are relatively toxic but tbh I've seen quite a few posts in the last month for raid groups explicitly willing to teach or accept inexperienced players. I'm a average gamer at best and I have been able to navigate XBOX lfg with some success. I think the biggest issue is you don't need to raid to hit max light/level or get the coolest weapons. The incentive is less. Even casual players in D1 had a reason to learn the raid. Most of my friends/clan fall into this casual group and despite being veteran D1 raiders couldn't muster the energy or desire to raid in D2. Also, in guessing the playing population is different. There are probably stats out there but on my friends list I have might have 1-2 people playing at any given time when I use to have 2-3 pages of friends playing. A lot of D2 players maybe didn't play D1 and have not developed the affinity for raiding for the reasons above and described by others in this string. I'll will give the unpopular opinion that I think today's version of D2 is a much more complete game with infinitely more things to chase and achieve compared to D1. I wish I had more time to grind things out. But perhaps the downside of this with respect to raiding is players choose to use whatever time they have for the other activities. I do wonder that if less and less players are raiding- will devs stop focusing on this activity in favor of quests etc? I hope not because for me and i assume other PVE oriented players raids were/are the most exciting aspect of this game.

          • Once shadowkeep comes out the raid gear will be even more ugly and useless because Bungie is putting all the cool stuff in eververse or locking it behind their new battle pass system. So completions of raids after shadowkeep will be like 1-2%. Lol. Absolutely no one will want to do them.

          • Raid gear isn't worth it in D2. And because there's no in-game matchmaking for it, people are less likely to go out of their way to find groups to do them. That is not support for in-game raid matchmaking. I play with enough blueberries in this game as it is. Plus some people just don't like needing to communicate to play the game.
