So here I sit with a nice Imperial Decree that dropped with a great perk, trench barrel. Then you have the triumph towards Juju catalsyt, Gambit/Gambit Prime - Imperial Scoundrel. Sounds like a match made in heaven.
Except the stomp mechanic from boss fights, nullifies trench barrel entirely. For as soon as you slap the donkey, boom, off you fly to your death or far enough away that by the time you get back there the perk benefit is over. The only use for this great perk is on the blockers. Or if you're lucky enough to kill a lowly ad on your way to the boss.
I still completed Imperial Scoundrel, by the way Gambit Prime matches are faster than regular Gambit, though I didn't count and wins count more, I believe it was under 20, feels right. All I can say is that I would still use Ikelos over Decree for the mere fact of RoF. Decree is slow AF when compared to. But wore it to increase my rep towards the triumph.
I'm not a fan of Gambit or Prime. Though I am a "Dredgen". It's just sad that a great boss melter, that was trench barrel, has died due the stomp.

Try and bait the stomp next time and melee at the moment of impact, that should keep you close if not in the same potion to take advantage of Trench Barrel. It'll hurt but it'll be worth it if you can pull it off. Just be sure to run away from the next stomp lol.

SGA: To keep from flying back from a boss, if you can tank their stomp. As soon as you see them start the animation to stomp, sprint forward and slide. If you do not have time to slide, simply crouching will reduce the distance you fly away less than half. If you are a warlock, dropping a rift as soon as they start to stomp will prevent fly back. Same goes for titan barricade. Hunters can dodge as well.

Stop trying to push that the "stomp" is just uncounterable. It's absolutely counterable 99% of the time. Time your melees or sword swings. Easy peasy.

Just wait until they actually stomp and then melee as soon as it connects and it’ll keep you from flying. Yeah you’ll take damage but you can at least get some shots in. Another way is to bait the first stomp and then straff outside the range of the slam before it connects. I never liked that mechanic, it should only be on some bosses, but all of them? Nahh. Maybe nerf the range it propels you.

I have an Imperial Decree with smoothbore, tactical mag, full auto, trench barrel, range masterwork and a magazine mod. I really love it, especially against blockers, but i am quite sad i can't use against bosses.

The stomp mechanic is easily countered. All you have to do is melee as the enemy is stomping. Not that difficult really.
-
Just melee as soon as they stomp. You'll have to jump away eventually to recover unless you have a method to heal, but it's a pretty simple strategy.

The best advice I can give is to time your melee with the stomp. Melee momentum cancels out the stomp mechanic. Wait to proc trench barrel until you see the stomp mechanic animation start. Once you get the timing down, you can do it pretty consistently. You’ll still take the damage, but no knock back.

The whole “melee at the right time to negate the stomp” thing that everyone says kills me. That’s essentially just an exploit to avoid it, and you still take damage. It just not sending the player flying so far in the first place makes more sense.

the person who made the stomp mechanic should be placed in custodial services. But for real, i doubt bungie plays their own games, they probably don't know and their ego's prevent them from taking feedback that isnt positive.
