Good, a reason to keep the playerbase engaged and hunting for better loot, how many looter shooters have you played where you get your maximum potential build in 3 weeks then stick with it for eternity. its an MMO, I understand the point your making, but for the type of game it is I don't understand why your making it.

Because it isn't like other looters, it never really has been. There are plenty of other ways to make people want to hunt down gear, from their looks, to actually having new things like archetypes. They could easily build on what they made, but instead they would rather just reskin the same old weapons, and add maybe 1 or 2 perks that the old skin couldn't get, and call it a day. Then focus almost entirely on eververse gear. You can make reasons for people to go after new equipment, you just have to put in at least a little effort and creativity. Some things like raid gear and high end PvP stuff could still have unique perks, people have been asking for this for a long time, it is just that Bungie chooses not to put in the effort. Basic things like the ability to equip mods really shouldn't be the reason gear is left behind. If they wanted to be like every other MMO and looter game out there, then they would never have implemented things like an infusion system. The point is they wanted to be something else, and yet don't capatalize on that and instead do the same kind of thing as everyone else, just is a different and honestly worse way.

I agree with mostly everything you said, I have played games however where legacy gear drops with the new attributes, rendering old gear of the same type already owned irrelevant, that is just part of the cycle, are you telling me a drop you got 8 months ago should be retro-fitted to new content for convenience?
-
No, not necessarily, but you should be able to re obtain that old gear with the new stuff. The stuff I already have doesn't have to be changed but when I get it to drop again it should be. This also helps to not make the loot pool feel so incredibly small, as it has been for a while, especially in forsaken.

I actually think we are in agreement this whole time, my argument was that already owned gear should not be magically obtaining slots but re-earned, if your saying all fresh drops should have the new attributes but already owned gear is left as is, then I agree.

I actually don't really mind either way. But I can see the merit in having people re acquire items. I am more concerned with just the fact that things will be left behind, and a bit less concerned with the how will they be kept relevant. That is really all I am saying in my post. The method for doing so can be debated, but I am saying however it is done, older gear should still be kept relevant and at least feel like it should be in the loot pool.

I would say the year 1 stuff should also be upgraded, but it should be made so you do need to re acquire it, and they should all have things like random rolls. It would just help to make the loot pool feel like it has more if nothing else. Also liked the feel of some of the year 1 stuff, but wished they would have some better perks, and now they could.
