It's been my observation that when a game is taken the free to play route it's the last gasp of a dying game. Not buying anything from bungie ever again. They are great at hype and nothing else.

People were mad that the game costs so much money just to play, now that Bungie is making year 1 f2p and every expansion/season purchaseable ala cart people are saying it’s dying. Wtf do you want? This is the best solution, you still get the free seasonable changes and buy what you want.

The very fact that you can preorder new content, that costs money, proves it's not going to change to free to play. If you want to pay $10 a month and play on Stadia, ok, but still not free. I think people misunderstood the whole, "New light," concept. It is simply a more expansive free trial experience to try and get new people and those that left shortly after D2 launched. Like the 50% of players that played D2 at launch, but never made it to level 20. It's simply a free trial that gives you basic activities and access to all the destinations. If you want to run dungeons, raids, or want any of the exotic quests, you will need to buy that content. So clearly not a free to play system like found in Warframe or Fortnite.
