Yes. I enjoyed killing Omnigul over and over again until I got my personal God Roll Grasp of Malok. Yes, I enjoyed killing The Undying Mind over and over for a Fakebringer Imago Loop. And YES, I enjoyed sticking it to every Psion Flayer I could find until I had three pretty matching glowey capes. The difference being that every strike was a slot machine pull. It kept me motivated to try again just as it kept thousands of others to do the same. And yes, I found the chase FUN. Grinding for effing Enhancement Cores to keep my three characters current with the very few items I enjoy using/wearing, on the other hand, is boring as hell. The gear that does drop in D2 is the same uninspired shit that drops multiple times a play session (seriously, who needs 25 Smuggler's Words??) and is merely smashed for resources unless it is a quest exotic or a pinnacle weapon (or the very rare regular exotic that drops in the wild... that isn't a repeat...). Some D1 love around here might be Nostalgia Goggles (and I admit that I can get guilty of that too), but the loot pool in D1 was vastly different, the level grind was vastly different (with multiple paths to max light so everyone could get there at their own speed) and there was a point to most of the grind we had to endure. In D2, it's grind for the sake of grind with little to nothing to show for it at the end except a bigger number floating next to my Guardian.

  • Because he's a looter-shooter player....and you arent'. That's the problem here. Destiny 1 branded itself as a looter-shooter...and with that comes player expectations around game play and progression that have been created by the game genre itself. But Bungie REFUSES to accept this identity for the game....so they keep fighting it...and keep trying to "reinvent" the game. So players can never expect what kind of experience they'll get for hteir money. This doesn't "suprise and delight" customers. IT PISSES THEM OFF. McDonalds isn't successful because the food is good. Its successfull because its CONSISTENT. You know what your'e going get every time you go there. But Destiny's a looter shooter one year. A campaign shooter with e-sport PVP the next year....and now its trying ot be this super-grindy MMO with no loot and no content. Its a brand that is going off in all-directions at once.....while Bungie IGNORES the majority fo the player base that is demanding to have their looter-shooter back.

  • Nope. I’m aware of what that logical fallacy is. It doesn’t apply here. Because grinding familiar content in pursuit of desired loot items is the cornerstone upon which this entire genre is built. Complain about that, and you might as well complain about how boring it is to watch people hit and chase after a little white ball in the middle of a huge park..,, ...,while claiming to be a golf fan. If you find the fundamentals of the game boring, then you aren’t really a fan of that game. [i]Res ipsa loquitur [/i]
