Just finished reading a post (more a list) of the things that it's done wrong. So I figured that I'd do a list about the things done right.
Forsaken. Just the DLC in its entirety.
Last Wish. One of the best raiding experiences I've ever had. I've been playing both D1 and D2 simultaneously and Last Wish is my favorite raid
Fantastic Events. The first Dawning aside, D2 has had some spectacular seasonal events. I mean, we got to bake cookies, build armor, go on dates, and get spooked
Gambit. As tiresome as the meta can be, Gambit is a great gamemode.
Dreaming City. An entire area dedicated to the end game? Hell yes.
Characters. Such an improvement over D1. I actually like a few people in this game.
Emote Wheel. Yeah, yeah, microtransactions bad, burn microtransactions, whatever. The emote wheel is soooooo nice to have, especially coming off D1. So many options to Express yourself.
In game lore. It's nice to not have to leave the game to learn about a weapon I'm holding.
Campaign. Putting TK aside, D2 has a better base campaign than all of D1's campaigns combined. And Forsaken might even be better than TK (maybe)
Individual Shaders. While earning them might be a pain, it's nice to be able to pick and choose shaders for each armor piece, not to mention gun shaders
Tracking Emblems. It's a small thing, but flexing on players with emblems feels great
Collections page. Being able to access any exotic at anytime from my menu is a -blam!-ing godsend.
And that's all I can think of off the top of my head. If you can think of anymore, comment and I'll update the list.

Bows. The addition of an entirely new weapon type is super cool. Even if they aren't the most competitively viable, they are still a super cool addition.

D1 people would literally delete a character to play through again. As for forsaken vs taken king... I'm gonna say they were about even. With the difference being tk had a lot more gear introduced. And the quality of gear was significantly better. Also TK added our 3rd subclass where forsaken just added a new class to each pre-existing subclass. We will call that a draw. Forsaken was incredibly small in terms of missions. they forced us to do all the adventures to make it appear like more content.
