A Message to a Wonderful Community..

Before you say this community sucks, I will say that I see more good people than trolls. Those like Shadowheart, Ringer, Texas Jedi, and so many others have been such incredible people on the forums. I see so many incredible posts on lore and Fanfics. A lot of people hate Bungie atm (although a lot of what happened was Activision’s fault) but I have faith in them and I love this community and world that they are constructing. I have faith in them. Most of all, I have faith in all of you. There’s been an issue of trolling and arguments and we should fight that toxicity. Help each other as a community. Be kind. Some will say I’m wasting my digital breath but someone needs to say this. We all do better as a community when we support each other, show kindness to each other. Many trolls are probably going to attack this post but that is fine. Because I want them to hear this too. I want them to know that they don’t have to be rude just feel good about themselves. You, The Destiny community have been wonderful in my experience here. Life is fickle and you only live once, make it matter. If you see someone getting trolled online, stand up for them. If you’re a student and you see someone getting bullied, stand up for them. We’re all living beings after all. And be sure to be grateful for those in your life. And I’d like to thank people like Shadowheart, Ringer, Archival, and so many more for making this community alive. Everyone here. Thank you for your time.

Okay, I read up to the part that you said a lot of it was Activision's fault. I'm stopping here for the moment and I am going to clear this up in my own opinion. It was both Activision's and Bungie's fault period. They both signed the contract and IMO it doesn't matter how pushy Activision was as some would say, and it doesn't matter how Bungie rebooted D2 leaving themselves no time to create this game as some would say. They both screwed up hardcore and both of them are stubborn that their heads got so big that no one could pop them to bring them down to reality to where the rest of us humans are that had the deal with both of their Hog Wash. We are the ones that have been paying for it in one form or another since the day they signed a contract. I don't care what anyone thinks about either company, they are both to blame for the state of this game. As far as the community goes. I like how it is, it gives it character lol. I do agree that the insults need to go and people need to let others have their opinion and learn to just agree to disagree. To me, it doesn't matter who I'm chatting with whether we like each other or not. If I'm shown respect I have no problem giving the same respect in return. It's simple logic really.

Now try to picture this forum next month where the last players left are less then a thousand losers kids not able to preorder Anthem and join their friends, 40 mins queue on every activity , 2 hours still trying to find the 4th guy to raid 😂

            • Sorry, I don't follow the sentiment that Bungie's mistakes can be written off as Activision's. Nobody forced them to sign the contract, they signed an insane deal because they saw dollar signs. If the release schedule was too rigorous, they overestimated their capabilities as a company. All of the creative decisions were Bungie's. Now that Activision is out of the picture all I honestly expect from Bungie is slower releases and less content. Plus a smaller player base because they won't have the advertising budget Activision did.

              • I appreciate what you’re trying to say here, but it feels either very naive or dishonest, on a number of different levels. Yes, there is a degree of trolling and toxicity on the forums; that’s something all forums generally face to varying degrees. But the dominant descriptor of the forumbase is more accurately described as severely frustrated. Players have been giving feedback, in some cases very detailed and well argued feedback, only to see it largely consistently ignored by Bungie, especially regarding a number of major issues with the general quality of life of play in the game. It’s true; different players don’t always agree on what should be done with the game, and it’s also sometimes the case that what players want or think they want isn’t good or healthy for the game’s long term (mind you, that doesn’t mean the developer is always right either). It’s important for a good developer to be able to take and process the feedback and come up with solutions that don’t alienate groups of players. When there are two camps that want seemly opposite things, it’s on Bungie to come up with a good compromise. The issue is that by and large Bungie isn’t taking reasonable action to iterate or improve on the game, and certainly not at a pace that is consistent with the expectations of the playerbase. And especially when that inaction is regarding tuning and balance, it has significant practical play implications every time the player boots up the game. When Bungie does make significant system changes, they’ve often been only partially thought out, or poorly implemented, or simply have come into the game to appeal to the demands of a single group in the playerbase at the expense of players of different mindset (see: weapon slots, random rolls on gear, increasing RNG dependence across the game globally). So players are frustrated, Bungie isn’t reacting to the feedback in a visibly productive way, and that all festers. Furthermore, trying to pin all the major blame on Activision is simply beyond any reasonable doubt false. That would imply that Bungie was literally doing nothing and had no ability to do anything, which is clearly not correct as they are the actual developer. I’m sure Activision’s oversight created complications for Bungie’s work or forced some measure of macro-level design or system changes or features to certain extents, but the reality is the bulk of the work had to have been done by the developer, especially on more micro levels, and in many cases it is in those micro levels that Destiny 2’s quality has failed to meet player expectations in experience harming ways. Have faith in Bungie if you wish, but realistically, most of us have spent our time with D2 since launch waiting for Bungie to really step up, and in general they have failed to do so, whatever the reason. For many of us, this isn’t an era of blind faith. The picture is more in line with, “significant mistakes have been made and problems endure. Show us evidence of ability to improve the game.” Because that’s the core issue; in the minds of a lot of us, the game is not clearly making forward progress towards becoming “better”, it’s either stagnant or declining, and there really just isn’t the data to make it clear that Bungie will fix things, particularly in a meaningful time frame.

                • True, but this game is done once Anthem releases. That game really is fun and fills the space Destiny kind of holds. It's nasty time in late February

                    • We’ll see what happens with the next season update. Say what you want about Bungie and how awesome they are (and honestly a lot of their people are incredibly awesome), if management keeps pushing things in the direction they’re going and the next update doesn’t have actual content that expands the universe in a meaningful way (like a well written storyline and missions that aren’t just more mob arenas strung together) then all the pretty words and optimism in the world can’t save this franchise. It’s gotten stale. Players, and more importantly the game itself, need something that truly inspires them. Not just the same drip feed of gear and tedious grind to keep us addicted to the product.
