What are some BAD reasons you’ve heard people give for their beliefs or lack thereof in gods/religion?
Here are a few I’ve heard.

There would be no objective basis for the value of life. All struggle regarding right and wrong would be purely subjective and vain squabbling. To condemn someone of their actions would be empty of merit due to no objective basis. To say “We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness….” is empty of any merit. A tiny group of a species living on a floating rock shouting into the void “I matter and we are all equal.” The Void doesn’t care. The Universe carries on, unaffected. The idea of unalienable rights for all humanity is baseless. On what basis do you claim your morality better than the child trafficker? All over the Earth, animals and creatures dominate each other for their own gain. On what objective basis do you claim that Humans are special? It’s just part of the circle of life? To say that slavery and tyranny and oppression are all evil, what basis do you have that you know for a fact that such activities are objectively evil? Atheism has no valid answer for all this. There is no objective foundation to their arguments. It’s purely subjective and invalid.

A really crazy reason for believing in xyz religion that I have heard is: “[i]the universe couldn’t have existed if a god didn’t create it[/i]” which grinds my gears because for all we know the idea of religion could be something the aliens will use to turn us against each other when they inevitably arrive.

You pray daily, asking forgiveness for your sins, and also ask for repentance, because without God, you cannot turn from your sinful nature. Although, if a Christian does not strive to repent of their sin, or put forth any effort to repent, they are either not a Christian, or going through a rough spiritual patch. God (or whatever you believe created us), gave us a moral compass to guide us, so that we don't steal, lie, murder, etc. Yet, some still do, because that is our sinful nature. Also, everyone who isn't a Christian, if they believe in God, normally doesn't care about him.

2 답변The main argument I hate from Religious people is the whole "Needing the threat of eternal suffering to not be a shithead." I feel like that says more about you as a person than it does about Athiests. Most people don't suffer from personality disorders and feel "empathy." I wasn't raised religious, but I still cried when I was 5 and our dog died.

Therefore god.” “My family raised me to believe and I like the feeling of belonging from going to church. Therefore god exists.” “The bible said said god exists. Therefore it must be true.” I think there’s plenty of irrational and/or emotional reasons people either believe or don’t believe. But that’s true for a lot of things, not just religion.

6 답변I put more trust in science than in religion. There’s a genuine rigor in one pursuit that is entirely lacking in the other. Physics and math are infallible, regardless of our ability to define them. But we can define them, we can prove objectively the rules that underly our reality. Proving them is not easy, but we can ultimately arrive at an answer. Religion, on the other hand, relies entirely on blind faith. Theists can completely circumvent any necessity for genuinely rigorous thought or research because, in their eyes, [i]God is Truth[/i]—so they don’t have to. It’s infinitely easier. It gives them a sense of purpose that they desperately need. It’s easier to trust that there’s a god, that there’s an afterlife than it is to accept the fact that we are all nothing more than a brain. A consciousness residing in the synapses of a mind hardly more special than a mouse or a deer or a chimpanzee. As our knowledge of science further progresses, as we finally get the full picture, it will be harder to justify a belief in any god. It’s already pretty damn hard, but eventually people will have to come to terms with their existence. Once you die, you go back to the same nothingness you were born from. What’s important is that you’re here now, and personally, I wouldn’t want to waste my life in blind adherence to some god written about in a book 2,000 years ago.

3 답변I hear this a lot: "I'm atheist because God is a dick." That's arguably a fair reason to not be Christian, but it's a bad reason to be atheist - because what about the other hundreds of thousands of gods you could believe in?

10 답변People are people. People think what they do for whatever reason they may so choose. For example, when I was in school there was a nice and enlightened young man by the name of Daeveon or something with diverse talents and thoughts- he liked basketball and Bernie Sanders. He liked communism. Why? Because under communism everyone will be equal. Nothing more, nothing less. Do I have a problem with that? Of course not. Keep shootsing for the stars ma comrade. On another occasion while walking about I met a lovely woman with black lipstick and chipped black nails. She spoke to our crowd of 30+ on a river for whatever reason about body positivity. We eventually got around her. Why did she believe this way? I'm not exactly sure, but I respect everyone's opinions because everyone is different and that's okay please don't ban me. My point is, no matter how right or wrong someone is, they might not always have the most complex reason for thinking that way. That's okay though. Because that's them and we should love them for who they are.
