For those of you who don’t know, every enemy faction in Destiny is based on real life ancient civilizations, religions and historical figures.
Fallen = Pirates
Hive = Ancient Europe/Dark Age Mythology
Vex = Ancient Greece Mythology
Cabal = Roman Empire
That is why some units of each faction are made and designed to have some reflection of what they are based on.
Ex:
Hive Knights have Swords to reflect real Knight weaponry
Cabal Phalanxes have giant shields that reference a Roman tactic where a group of foot soldiers with shields huddle up to make a wall
Since the Darkness is coming soon, I’ve been wondering what they could be based on.
Personally, I’m hoping for Egyptian because the creatures and figures in that culture are more interesting.
I would love to see some sort of serpent creature
(more specifically, an Apep: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apep)
implemented into the game.
But, if you feel like some other mythological creature is more deserving, feel free to share.
Edit: Changed Cabal to Roman Empire from Holy Roman Empire because I have been corrected because I’m not a History person. Sorry for the inconvenience!

3 답변The darkness feels, and reads, more like a corruption than an actual race that Bungie would find a historical precedent to base it on. 2 reasons: A- way easier to say the Taken are corrupted agents of the darkness. B- Darkness as an actual race makes no sense against what I've read. - It's described in both D2 and D1 as an amorphous force that is inimicable to the light. Also, Asher Mir mentions several times that the Taken and the dreadnought emit
sterile neutrinos, axions, phaetons, and gravity waves
all things that are believed to be emitted by "Dark Matter" a kind of "real world darkness"; -it does not react with light in anyway; light is absorbed by it, and also is observed bending around it in space- the way a black holes event horizon bends the light of stars behind it. If Bungie has based the "Darkness" off of anything its not a culture or religion- its this massive unknown object in space that we can't see, detect or even prove it exists- all we know is it swallows light. my two cents

The Darkness, just like the Light (The Traveler), transcend any religion or culture or belief. In my opinion, they are the embodiments of the universal laws of creation and destruction. Its not good or evil or any belief we have or had in human history, it is simply the way the universe works. The constant struggle and balence between creation and destruction. One cannot exist without the other and nothing can be created without having first the raw materials from a previous destruction. If you're going to base them on ANYTHING, its the laws of the cosmos. The Light and the Darkness are what drives stars to explode and then reform into white dwarfs. The Light and Darkness are embodiments of that law. I could go on and on about this lol

1 답변None, it should be something new and unique, something utterly alien. Unfortunately as most humans can only comfortably absorb what they already find familiar, something actually alien would be so incomprehensible as to drive us insane (or at least unsettle us greatly), which I imagine would be counterproductive to Bungie's business plan. Whatever it is it will probably be derivative and more than likely some kind of reskin because that's honestly what I've come to expect.

I feel the darkness religion/culture should be Necroism from the Chronicles of Riddick movie. Necromongers/Necroism The Necromongers are a religious empire and one of four elder races, that zealously and violently follows and propagates its religion Necroism. An absolutely fanatic group that believes life is antagonistic to the natural state of the universe. They intend to convert or kill all who oppose them. The Necromongers believe that each 'verse has its own god, that life is antagonistic to the natural order of the universe and must be purged from it to be reborn in the Underverse. The Underverse is their promised land, believing that unless a person dies "in due time" that they will not go to the Underverse. They also believe heavily in a philosophy that says "you keep what you kill"(sword logic maybe), believing that ending another's life entitles you to their property and position.
