IOW.....
.....Bungie once again adds things to the game, without thinking about what the community will do with them in the wild.
Competition ALWAYS drives out inefficiency. In a shooter, that means the meta will always default to the most EFFICIENT killing method available. That is the fastest-killing weapon that is widely available and easiest to use. While exposing the use to the least risk.
So----in a Gambit arena---where you need to go back and forth between killing people and slow moving bosses...
...and that PVP is in a large arena with super long sight lines....and you have the ability to shoot at people who don't know where you are?
Sleeper Simulant...and Whisper of the Worm.

Yup. I can also follow the train of thought on the whole invader being able to see defenders without them seeing them. With large maps and time limit on invading they knew that searching for people would become fruitless as you'd run around a huge map and your radar is not effective since PVE adds cloud that up. Let's add vision of defenders! Now combine that with super heavy use and voila! I can get behind gambit ideas and the vision behind it, the implementation is questionable.

I like the game mode. I think its the right kind of PVP for this kind of game. It plays like a big rough-and-tumble MOBA. The only problem is that making the QUEST contingent on a behavior that is going to become increasing futile in this game mode's PVP....wasn't smart.
