St. 14 was one of the most powerful guardians in existence. Cayde was just the current mentor for hunters (Ana Bray and Shin Malphur are way more powerful).

Mostly my point, I guess. How hard would it have been for him to kill, or pindown a couple of the barons, or add a golden gun tearing through a bunch a crap. Mostly his knife throwing super could been more impressive. I should be happy we got a cutscene at all, it just pales in comparison.
