My conspiracy theory...They're doing it on purpose just to be dicks and piss people off, it would not be the first time. (anyone who knows Bungie, knows that they from time to time love to be assholes) ..I could be wrong, but there are two blight events and only one drill, it's really unlikely that the drill would just randomly out number blights with a 2-1 ratio that many times in a row, i mean that's only 33% for the drill and 66% to get one of the blights, seems insane for the drill to drop 10 times in a row without some kind of "help", that help being drop rates influenced to have higher percentages than they really should, in this case even though Blights out number the Drill it's more or less a 50% chance either way (maybe higher in favor of the Drill) But normally the Drill should be the rarer event.
Thankfully you only have to do it once, get it done and you can hop in when ever you want.
The three blight spawns in that area are all the same event it’s just that the first spawn is random so sometimes the flag is in a different location. That being said I see no reason one in a location where the possibility for two events exists that one should so heavily outweigh the other for such long periods of time. From what I’ve heard they looked into it when it happened last weekend and found it was not a bug but bad rng and made a statement that they are looking into fixing it moving forward. My proposed solution would be to start the chance for events at 50/50 and when one event occurs you change the chances to favor the other one next time to 60/40 and continue the counterbalance to 70/30 80/20 90/10 and 100/0 for as many times as the same event as the first spawns in a row making it impossible for the same event to spawn more then 5 time in a row. After both events have spawned in accordance to one of these cycles it starts over from 50/50.
