At first glance, the final cut scene of Destiny 2’s main campaign is straightforward. It depicts the evolution and destruction of Gaul at the hands of the newly awakened Traveler, whose light travels throughout the Galaxy and awakens a fleet of strange ships (reminiscent of the strange triangles seen in the vision of the light following the loss of your guardian’s) in deep space. This is clearly setting the stage for Destiny 2’s future, but Bungie alludes too much more in this cut scene. The Traveler’s light expands outwards through space, engulfing many familiar locations. First passing Mercury, Mars, the Reef, and the dreadnaught. Prior to the release of the past two DLCs (Osiris and Warmind), they were familiar landmarks, giving the player a sense of scale. Upon reexamination it is clear that this was Bungie foreshadowing much more than we thought. I believe they were revealing the locations of each DLC package: Osiris on Mercury, Warmind on Mars, and the recently revealed Forsaken on the Reef. Therefore I predict that the next DLC will return the guardians to the Dreadnaught, and the next will involve the mysterious ships in deep space.
Another interesting note is the key figures in each DLC. In Osiris, we saw Ikora take the lead in chasing her former mentor. In Rasputin, Zavala acts as the cautious side of our conscious, warning us of Rasputin’s potential power. In Forsaken, Cayde will play a vital role in the story (whether that is through physical presence or some other form) as is clear from the reveal trailer. We see the Vanguard presence through these three DLCs, this begs the question, who will be the next to step up in the unrevealed DLCs? Could the 4th DLC have Eris return? We know she has had a physical presence on the Dreadnaught (she retrieves the core of Oryx’s sword). She has been mysteriously missing since the fall of the tower at the hands of the Red Legion, but it has been confirmed through in game dialog that she is alive.
