Destiny 2 - Curse of Sisyphus

The hype train back in 2013 for Destiny was full tilt and loaded with promises. Come launch day in Sept 2014, many of us had bought the game + expansion pass and were grinding away. But it didn't take long for it to be clear the marketing was overpromising while the game was underdelivering. Players began grinding the hard grind just a couple weeks in, DLCs brought in a trickle of content, and some jumped ship entirely. After a lot of criticism and significant delays in patching known issues, Bungie finally made a game close to what they promised in the 2nd year with The Taken King launch and by the end The Rise of Iron. The game finally felt complete: Finally a 3rd subclass, PvP had variety & custom games, lots of space to explore, hidden areas, diversity in PvE, meaningful weapon and armor differences, so on and so forth. So when Destiny 2 was coming, many people expected the game to kick off with AT LEAST the significant progress Destiny 1 had made. But as with the Greek myth of Sisyphus, Bungie let that boulder roll back down hill to start over again. Yes, the game started with a 3rd subclass and revamped how it managed level perks. Yet, weapons became extremely non-unique, even with the new Masterworks system. PvP was reduced in scope. Yay for landing zones on maps, though that honestly should've been there since day one on D1. Curse of Osiris, again DLC with big hype, gave us one tiny little area to run around in a circle without even a sparrow, a single public event that takes forever to spawn when Mercury is that week's Flashpoint, a "Raid Lair" that made the Crota raid actually look impressive in size, and a sparse story with zero impact on the rest of the game. I won't even explore the fiascoes of DLC lockouts for base game owners or the Eververse debate. Why did Bungie let it's sequel to the much hyped franchise it has been building for years fall back so far from where they got the first game? Is there progress? Somewhat, in some areas for sure. But in the end this game, which was a chance to show Bungie had grown over the years working with player feedback, has confirmed what this former fanboy didn't want to believe despite the naysayers: [b]Bungie will always overpromise and underdeliver[/b] I already bought the expansion pass, so I'll play the game again when the next DLC comes out again. But if Bungie wants more of my dollars they need to show they can get the boulder to the top of the hill. Activity level in my full clan has plummeted after content was exhausted, with many quitting the game altogether. I have 3 systems in the house that we bought the game for, and several friends IRL that we encouraged to buy the game so we could all play. It was fun for a bit but not enough for me to drop more into future DLCs if we can expect more Curse of Osiris level stuff. And promises to fix things and be transparent are empty words from this company right now. Put YOUR money with your mouth is, Bungie, and some of us may stay...

  • You know why this game has problems? They listened to the complainers. Every decision they made has it's origins in a complaint either here or by some jackass streamer. All of them. We made Destiny 2 what it is now. Wanna know why it sucks? Go look in a -blam!-ing mirror.

    • Curse of fanboy SissyFuss. "Bur toy don't understand! The game is so awesome and there are actually millions of people playing it every week the tracking sites are wrong!" The curse of Sissyfuss is that the harder the fanboys push their approval of Bungle. The worse the game will get because Bungle puts twice the weight on one guy saying "naw its okay" as they do on people saying "burn this shit down"
