The better option when it comes to re-branding a title would be to hide the numerical value. For example when Destiny 3 comes out it should be visually represented as three lines rising to meet the three points of the Destiny icon.
And if they do plan to reboot the franchise they should start the timeline in a much earlier date. Perhaps during the War of Twilight Gap, The newly risen guardians will find themselves behind enemy lines. Allowing them to stir up trouble giving the City Guardians a chance to push forward.

The Vanguard have finally comes to terms that they need to reclaim the Earth and the solar system itself. The first thing to do is to reactivate planetary/interplanetary communication. The Bray Communication Center(new public war zone) is a massive campus devoted to interplanetary communication and research. As the guardians make their way to this location they will find that the Cabal and golden age robots are fighting amongst each other trying to claim/defend the campus.

With communications now reestablished it's time for the city to increase their Aerial fleet. Introducing the Arizona Boneyard (public war zone), it is a place were old and surplus "planes/ships" are placed. The Fallen are currently running amok within the zone but additionally a dark force seems to be taking some of the fallen and anyone else they can in the area.

A research facility based on the Moon (small public war zone) was researching more advanced hyper drive engines. There their guardians will be dealing with the hive while at the same time trying to salvage any hyperdrive engines or data on them.

The Fallen's End (small expansion) It's time to put an end to the Fallen threat on Earth. The vanguard have intercepted communications from the fallen and I've discovered their base of operations on earth, The Manhattan Ruins (cityscape; public war zone). Here is where you will finish the Fallen threat on earth and eventually discovered some unsettling information from a Vex(deactivated) construct.
