TLJ has gotten a lot of hate since it's release. I watched, it and I personally loved it, but I realise it does have flaws. The pacing is wierd, the casino bit could've been done better, and there are just a few too many wasted scenes. By that I mean things that were set up but with no follow through. Spoiler for examples.
The cave scene for example that didn't show Reys parents could've included other important lore instead, but it didn't have anything. Also, for people complaining about Reys parents, having everyone be children of other known people is just silly and dumb. But, if you really want Rey to have Important Parents, there is still a possibility that Kylo was mistaken or lying. Just wait for number nine and let's see what happens.
So, while TLJ is flawed, it is still an amazing movie that deserves more than an audience score of 55% on Rotten Tomatoes. For everyone who hates it for whatever reason, whether rational ones or nitpicky *it ruined Star Wars!* ones, I'd just like to say that the only person pre-release of A New Hope who thought it was a good movie was Steven Spielberg. Pretty much everyone else thought it sucked, and theatres around the nation needed to be threatened before they would show it. (this was by the studio threatening to withhold another movie from being allowed to be shown.)
Also, it wasn't for years until Empire Strikes Back was agreed to be the best Star Wars movie. When it comes to Star Wars, there has always been a wierd relationship about what people like about it. No Star Wars movie has ever released to perfect reception, and it has often taken years before people were able to truly appreciate them for what they are.
Whether or not TLJ is a perfect movie or not, in time people might agree that it was the perfect breath of fresh air Star Wars needed, they might say it was the best one ever, they might agree that it was an ok movie that's not the worst to watch when having a marathon, or they might say that they are worse than the prequels. Who knows.
It's ok to hate the movie. It's ok to love the movie. Just remember that the opening reception is not going to be reflective of the general opinion in ten years. By all means, turn the comment section into a total war over the quality of the movie, I just ask that any spoilers be put into spoiler boxes so that people who don't want spoilers don't have them. Also, please keep it civil.
You do realize as the new trilogy has come out more people have realized its a complete cash grab and not anything substantial.
The Last Jedi was both good and bad for Star Wars.
Bad because well it’s hated more than the Phantom Menace at this point.
Good because Disney knows we won’t except some crap from them and just take it (if only that could happen with marvel)
When I think about the film. Luke is always the biggest thing. I believe his send off was good but his character was tarnished. I do like the idea of a beaten, old, rotten turd Luke. However, his whole explanation is given in one sentence..
