Worst final boss(es) ever?

[b][u]Warning: This thread will inevitably contain spoilers. To posters: please specify what game you’re spoiling, then use a spoiler box To readers: You’ve been warned[/u][/b] Good evening everybody! This is Aifos coming to you alive from the Secret Sea, on Planet Popstar, in Gamble Galaxy! Hm.. I’m noticing a pattern here.. You know that moment, when you’re playing a game in one of your favorite series, and you’re like “Wow! This might be my favorite game in the franchise!” then you hit that final boss, and then you’re like “Wow.. That was the worst final boss in the franchise..”. Yeah.. Those moments. A final boss should be the dramatic final encounter! The climax you’ve been building up to for the entire game! A clash of wits and power, creating a battle unlike any other before! A test of everything you’ve learned so far! Or it can be a star with an eyeball, weaker than the first boss.. Yeah.. Those bosses.. Point is, bosses don’t always live up to our expectations. Sometimes, they just aren’t that great story wise, or they’re just pitifully easy. Maybe both.. This is worse when that lame boss is the final boss, because they’re supposed to be the [i]best[/i] bosses. Let’s talk about those final bosses that completely let us down! [b][u]Tl;dr? Here’s my point![/u][/b] Most disappointing final bosses? My answer: I’ve got 2 for ya. Dark Souls III: [spoiler]The Soul of Cinder, imo, is the worst boss in the entire franchise. “A collective of all the Lords of Cinder”, how utterly stupid (imo).. It’s sad especially, because (almost) every other boss in this franchise is straight up [i]amazing[/i]![/spoiler] Kirby: Squeak Squad [spoiler]I was actually excited to see the final boss here. It possessed Daroach, and flew off into space. In what is quite possibly my favorite Kirby area (Gamble Galaxy) we chase it down, beat it out of Daroach, take up Daroach’s legendary Tri-Star rod, and corner it! Desperately, it materializes with what strength it has left, and just when we think we win this super easy phase, it transforms into its final terrifying form! . . . Or.. Not. Apparently that was its final form.. Oh it was the leader of the underworld? Hm.. I’ll admit; if it was called “Dark 0” instead of “Dark Nebula”, and if its description was “ruler of dark” instead of “ruler of the underworld”, like it is in Japanese, I would see the boss as a lot cooler. We defeated 0 twice, and now he’s severely weakened, which is why we beat him so easily, but at the time, I was disappointed.[/spoiler]

  • Well the one that comes to mind instantly is the one from Mass effect 3. But does that one count because technicaly it is not a real bossfight. Or Orphan in FFXIII, that boss has an instakill move and when used on the leader it was insta game over, which IMO is very bad design. Orphan was otherwise easy as -blam!-, as long as you were lucky to resist the doom attack. But I do agree with you in Lord of Cinder, I would not go as far as to say it wasn't a fun fight, but its design was definitly a lazy homage to the fans. It lacked originality or intresting mechanics and in that regard it was pretty similar to a PvP fight and thus easy to win by just ganking him.

  • Fable 2 multiple ending dialogue only XD All the build up to that BS Fallout 4 also dissappointing AF no real boss fights no matter what path Mass Errect 3 smh get the -blam!- out of here with that too All of RE6 / RE7 final bosses holy -blam!- nothing like the classics 4 and 5 had proper boss fights at least

        Panoptes in Destiny 2’s CoO dlc. [spoiler]Destiny has always had rather bland and not particularly tasteful campaign boss designs, but this guy takes the cake. You see this big bad bot show up several times in various time simulations. He’s big, he’s powerful, he’s ready to delete your ass in a moment’s notice. On the final mission of the new campaign, you end up in a sim area ready to chase this giant Vex god down and what do you get when you encounter him? He doesn’t even attempt to attack you personally. He just floats in the air nonchalantly while summoning a small group of weak adds. You keep this up for a few more platforms before you finally end up on his personal stage. So, you’ll notice a pattern. Guy’s not taking damage from stray bullets and he likes to pop out adds. You can guess at this point what comes next: another wave of adds. At least this time, he sends an actual mob of these dumb AIs to inconvenience you. You deal with them and when you get up front to face Panoptes and deal some smack, he’s about to kick you from his server while not giving an eff about your rocket launcher rounds that deal 0 damage to his face. Big-O finally makes the scene, stopping Panoptes’ attempt to give you the boot and this is where the fight begins to really suck. Osiris’ data clones come in to provide backup and teleport you to a golden obstacle course so you can run a few feet, pick up an orb and dunk it to down Panoptes’ immunity shields. You then get teleported to another platform where your feet are glued to the floor with Panoptes’ core exposed for all to see. Ozzy then prompts you to hit him before his shield comes up and you frogblast the vent core for a third of his health. You then get teleported back down to the stage to repeat the whole shtick from scratch with no subtle changes in the least bit. That’s it. No change in tactics. No attacks from the boss itself. Just add spawns. The big reason why this campaign boss is the absolute worst in all of Destiny’s boss fights is because this was the first time that the boss didn’t so much as directly interact with the player. Ghaul, Skolas, even SIVA with the Iron Lords at least made some kind of attempt on their own to kill you. Hell, the Heart brings three giant statues to life to hurt your feelings. Panoptes supposedly can plan out the destruction of our solar system and erase people from it’s simulation world, but it’s only means of attack is to spawn lowly adds that even a twelve-tear old with a BB gun could deal with. I knew that the game was gonna take a hard kick to the family jewels later on and I paid up the expansion pass because I wanted to pay my respect for when the end to this franchise came and so I could get a front row seat to watch it all die(a certain edgelord once said “Nothing quite dies like hope.”), but seriously? The original Gnasty Gnorc had a better build-up to a fight than this guy and all Gnasty had a beef with was not getting good PR. [/spoiler] My second most disappointing boss fight was with Metroid Prime 2’s final Dark Samus fight. [spoiler]Nothing is worse than having a boring and repetitive encounter with one boss throughout a game and having the idea to use an end-of game timer to give the sense of urgency to mask the last one doesn’t make things any better. You get 7 of the longest minutes of the entire game to deal with this dark despot who remains half of the fight in either a state of invulnerability or invisibility requiring a rather clunky scanning system to allow aiming possible. The previous two encounters were much better than this one and it honestly had me just begging for it to end.[/spoiler]

      • Botw. [spoiler]As much as I love the game, the final boss sucked. It was an Awesome Castle storm, with some awesome music and enemies, but the fact that Ganon wasn't hardly seen until the moment of the boss fight makes it much less enjoyable. This is a critical mistake too many games make. The main villain isn't villainy enough, and you don't get to know and hate the villain, so you're left with a completely unsatisfying ending. Botw did exactly this, we got a little cutscene of exposition saying "Here's ganon go kill him." Not to mention that when you're fighting mega goat in Hyrule field, you can literally do nothing and and you wouldn't get hit, because he's slow as heck, his attacks all suck [i][b]fricken heck the lynels are harder than this crap.[/b][/i] And in the first fight, if you complete all 4 dungeons, the boss literally starts at HALF HEALTH. [/spoiler] There's my rant for today.

          • The final fight in bioshock infinite jesus what a terrible end to a game i other wise loved really seemed like they had no clue how to end it and said -blam!- it lets make it wave defense. I really wanted the final boss to be that stupid bird that shit snatched my desire to beat it again away forever. So bad i literally play the game over up until that point and just start a new game
