Your Crucible is still a piece of lagging shit

So much for the new hybrid system and 4 man teams....do not insult my intelligence by blaming my internet

  • Crucible is awful, I get shot behind walls and corners. I cannot stop lagging and I cannot stop getting killed by the same player I killed half a second earlier.... not to mention the 4V4 that’s is stupid. Congrats on ruining the crucible for all

    • For me it's even much worse then in Destiny 1. After playing D1 for 3 years almost every day (3700 hours) i almost can't get a kill in D2. It's frustrating and i'm very angry with Bungie.

It is pretty annoying when you get shot running behind a wall.

    •
So much for the new hybrid system
Please, Destiny community, tell me you did not buy into this crap about a "hybrid" system? Bungie has always had this "hybrid" system they tried to portray as being better for PvP: their server setup tracked your stats. That is it. There has never been anything beyond that, and there still currently isn't. That talking point they used was to make gullible guardians feel a sense of hope, especially the PC crowd. NEWSFLASH: The netcode for PvP is the same as D1...which was the same as Reach...
and 4 man teams
I am still at a loss regarding how reducing fireteams down to four was going to mitigate lag - Bungie's crown jewel for PvP was a 3v3 setup called "Trials of Osiris" that was, for all intents and purposes, a laggy shitshow on a good day (a bad day was when you got ddos'ed back to orbit and your teammate was stuck in a 3 on 1). BUNGIE: Trials - yeah, it's too laggy. But no worries, we will reduce the team sizes down to 4v4! DESTINY COMMUNITY: But Trials is 3v3... BUNGIE: No more questions! Thank you!

      • Dude if you think it's Bungie's fault that you're lagging you have no intelligence to insult. I have terrible internet. Actually terrible. Like so bad it took me 13 hours to download D2's Day 1 update. And I DON'T lag in crucible. Your internet is trash. Don't blame Bungie cause you can't afford a good ISP.

        • Its the same BS lag that was in D1. Exactly the same. I have fiber & every computer or phone in my home works great. Turn on Xbox. Contacting Destiny servers. Every dam day. Bungie has just become a total joke. I have over 60 players on my friends list. Today only 2 people playing Destiny. It was nothing like this in D1. My list was full of people playing in D1. What does that tell you?

Most internet service issues start with the upstream and downstream signal strength, the ratio of noise on each up and down channel to your ISP. Yes, I am an IT consultant, and I know how to tune a cable modem to reduce errors and increase stability, and thus address and improve (reduce) lag impact. I worked with my ISP to get very good signal quality given my location. I live in a very remote location, and yet I have much better internet connectivity than most of my friends, and no, I am not paying for expensive service, I just happen to know what to look for and what can be improved. Some of my friends have had major issues, and once they addressed the real issue, their game experience significantly improved. Here are some of the factors: 1) Location, if you are not near high speed infrastructure, and a large population of D2 players, you will be impacted, this is fact of life. Servers, consoles, etc. cannot overcome the reality of location as an element of performance, i.e. lag. 2) Make sure your internet router and/or cable model are 1G Ethernet interfaces, not 100 mbit. Will 100 mbit work, yes, mine is 100 mbit, but using 1G based devices, means you have the latest chip sets, thus the best potential performance, but be assured, you will not get near 1G speed from any residential ISP, no matter what they say. Fibre vs. Copper is another misleading qualifier. Fibre can be faster if all the factors align, this is why FiOS is popular. But FiOS can have some of the same issues as traditional copper. 3) Make sure you have at least 25 mbit download and 2 mbit upload service from your ISP that is stable and consistent. Stable 2 mbit upload speed is critical. Don't rely on the ISP promise of speed, do your own testing. Did I say...Do you own testing? Yes. This will take some time, effort, and fair amount of reading to understand how to do this. Make notes on when your speed results vary, this will be important for the ISP to help resolve issues. Just like your main water line, if everyone is taking a long shower, everyone gets less water, than if only a few are taking a shower at the same time. Remember, your typical cable based internet connection is a SHARED pipe, so the number of subscribers between you and the local area source, is important as well. The ISP can't change this, but they can change the CHANNELS assigned to your connection to provide some isolation of signals to improve quality and thus speed. 4) The number of correctable errors and uncorrectable errors on your ISP connection is key to consistent performance, these values can vary from ISP to ISP based on many factors, but any qualified ISP service tech should be able to reduce the uncorrectable errors significantly. This will improve your service. The upload channel and download channel signal noise is another key factor, if your channel power is high, and your line noise is high, in effect either your ISP is screaming at your model, or your model is screaming at the ISP, either of this conditions is bad news, and you may never know it is happening because video streaming and typical browsing survives when this happens, but not gaming. Cable modems hide these issues, by design, so a typical internet user or even a video stream being received, may never realize how bad their connection is, where as gaming has very little resilience, since it does almost (or no) active buffering, where every other internet service your ISP provides does some type of buffering, even simple browser via Google has some buffering applicable. 5) Make sure your cable modem or ISP device is the first item in the connection chain in your house. This means that if you have 3 TVs and 1 cable model, the cable model gets the clearest strongest signal. This will not impact TV quality, because TV signal strength can be quite weak and still get a perfect picture, but this is not the case with a cable model or ISP interface device. 6) if you have a long distance from the ISP source and through your home to the cable model or ISP device, you will need a transmit AMP. What they will call a local signal AMP. Don't let them tell you that you do not need this, the testing and results will make it clear is such is needed. If you live in an apartment building, odds are they have boosted the signal via local AMPs, 1 for every 5 apartments maybe even less, depending on the cable line distance through the structure of the housing complex. For example, in my standalone home I have a transmit AMP... provided by the cable company for free, that boosts the signal strength from curb into the home. This is standard practice, but you have to ask for it, your ISP will not do this by default. But they will only provide this once you have provided it is needed, and that is done via testing and capturing the device logs for your specific interface device, via it a router, cable model, etc. In my case, I have my own cable model and router that I own and monitor, I do not use the ISP provided devices. This is legal, the ISP can't make you use their equipment, in reference to the modem and router. They can make you use their transmit AMP, since that device is actually part of their physical network. But again, a transmit AMP is free... don't let them tell you otherwise! 7) And goodness sake, never use WIFI for gaming, this includes connections from game console to router/interface device, i.e. cable modem. I am not talking about the wireless controllers. However, if you can, never use wireless game controllers, connect game controller to console via USB cable if possible, game controllers can be a conflicting device with other local WIFI networks. My entire home has WIFI access, but I also have Ethernet cabling to every room in the home, with a 1G network back bone. 8) If you have multiple WIFI networks around your home, make sure NO ONE is using the same frequency range and channels that you are using. This is quite technical to figure out, but most home WIFI networks use default channels and people do not realize they are actually impacting WIFI performance of themselves and others. For example, when I first setup my WIFI scanner I had 25 different local WIFI networks overlapping each other in the local area, and of the 25, more than 90% were all using the same channel (or channels). What a mess. 9) If someone is streaming up to the internet, this is a MAJOR FACTOR that consumes upload bandwidth, and hello, game lag is result. Do you get audio gaps with your party line while gaming and streaming up to internet? That is typical of slamming the upload capacity for example. Provisional streamers have commercial service that is designed to support very demanding upload and download volume of network data. They are NOT USING your typical home internet service, and if they say they are, don't believe it, something somewhere has been tuned, boosted, or improved over typical default service. 10) ISP caps, limits, throttling, etc. are all issues as well, and they get into some deep mud, so I will not mention them in detail here. But be assured, if you ISP is doing anything on the back end to control the network volume or capacity, it will be hard for you to identify it and resolve it. In my case, I was told no limits were in place, but I never seemed to get anything close to 2 mbit upload capacity I was paying for, then after I called my ISP and proved I was not getting my paid for 2 mbit upload capacity, later that same day, the problem magically disappeared and has never reappeared... now I ask you, does that pass the smell test? No, it does not. But again, I had the test results and times and dates when the issues happened, so I had a strong argument to the ISP. 11) Last, purchase the best internet router you can, if you can. The internet routers or combination routers and models an ISP gives you, are never top quality. Often they are refurbished over and over. And, if you do purchase your own internet router and/or cable modem, they are designed to last about 2 years on average, they may last 10 years, but that is rare, after about 2 years the errors became more frequent, and as I noted above, typical hidden from typical use scenarios. The above list is a place to start of course, but most issues are signal quality based, and if you want to read up on ISP signal quality, use Google! Learn about how to ask the right questions! You will likely significantly improve your gaming experience, I did. And many of my friends did as well.

Their archaic peer to peer server system couldn't handle 6v6, so to improve the expirience they "upgrade" to a peer to peer hybrid system that cant handle 4v4. Valuble lessons to learn here: #1: Fire Luke Smith #2: USE DEDICATED SERVERS LIKE REAL AAA DEVELOPERS

                      • Well if i cant blame your internet then I will have to blame either your console or, the cable between your console and your network equipment, or your network equipment (switch/router/modem) You can try a different network cable and see if that clears things up. If not then depending on your network you can try eliminating some things like if your router and modem are seperate unplug the router and connect the console straight into the modem to test. If you keep your old modems grab one and see if it makes a difference. If you have nearby friends who dont lag have someone bring their console over and try it with your setup. If you still have a problem then I have no choice but to blame your internet and you should too. Also I dont care what your bandwidth is so dont insult my intelligence by saying how many GB you get upstream and downstream. That doesnt mean anything. It would be more benefitial to know about your latency, or packet drop/retransmit numbers, whether or not your isp is using stupid routes, etc.

D1 had multiple playlists/game types (and Private matches) to cater for Casuals to the MLGers. As for connection issues, yep, same problems. Whether you're complaining or defending the current config, pretty sure Bungo aren't going to do all they can to address it.
