Wow more footage, body cam footage.....
So basically the cops were chasing a suspect on the highway who crossed lanes and hit a semi head on.
The driver of the semi, ie the victim, was the one they were trying to get blood for. So in other words this was in the hope he had something in his system that would let the police off the hook for any liability.
The lieutenant is captured on body cam afterwards saying he will punish the hospital by bringing them all the transients and taking all the 'good patients' elsewhere.
To make matters worse the hospital policy is to draw blood on arrival, which they did. So in reality the cops could have just gotten a warrant and had that blood tested.
But they probably knew they wouldn't get a warrant since the victim did nothing wrong.
The victim was also a reserve police officer and his department said what the nurse did was heroic.

3 답변Sounds like the Lieutenant will also manage to get himself fired. The nurse was 100% in the right. The police were 100% in the wrong. ...and yes, they could have gotten what they needed by simply going to get a warrant. Sounds like both officers are looking at getting fired (rightly). ..and that nurse will be looking at one very big payday from that police department, and possibly those individual officers if she chooses to pursue it. Because what they did was indefensible. Both what they tried to do to the accident victim...and the nurse who stood up for his privacy and 4th Amendment rights.

4 답변People need to be more assertive with their rights, in general. Cops will get away with whatever you let them and have no issue flat out lying to your face. More people need to start pushing back. More people that aren't criminals, most especially.

1 답변This is why the current law enforcement system doesn't work. Just what do you do when officers cause problems, that were completely preventable, and then behave like this instead of being helpful? Then how would you prevent this from happening again?

I think one of the worse outcomes of this mess is that, at that hospital, nurses are no longer allowed to interact with law enforcement. Police have to talk to health supervisors with in-depth knowledge of laws instead, and it has to take place in non-patient areas. That'll mean those issues will tie up more people at hospitals, and person on the health care side of the conversation is someone who will have less direct knowledge of the specific patient in question. That probably means they'll be asking the nurse questions to get information, which isn't exactly going to help treatment go smoothly.

5 답변This is typical of Americans, making a fuss out of nothing. Now this stupid nurse is on media outlets playing up her "heroic" acts. Just another attention hound. You people need to wake the -blam!- up.

5 답변In Tennessee, if it the person is in a accident that causes death or a bodily harm to another individual. It is a automatic blood draw. Other than that, it is voluntary or have to get warrant. Which takes about 30 minutes or less. Depends on the city or county. Refusal will always get you a additional charge though in the long run if you are a dui.

Nurse was following the law, police officer should have gotten a warrant, wouldn't be surprised if they get fired. Doesn't mean all police are like that. If your cashier is an asshole you don't stop going to the store...
btw second part wasn't directed at you OP
