In Destiny 2, they introduced the 3rd ability (hold circle) and I feel that hunters got no love, Titans got the barriers and Warlocks got the healing and empowering rifts which are new and exciting additions to Destiny. Hunters on the other hand got an ability they already had. Also Guardians also received small additions like Warlocks can charge their Void grenades and Titans still have Ward of Dawn, but again Hunters got nothing new.
Well, we've only seen a fraction of what will eventually be available. So who's to say there won't be similar things later on.
Also, I think it's worth noting that once it's all opened up, subclass paths can't be mixed or matched like in the old days. So, who can say what it will all look like. But one should expect a new way of doing things.
But I agree that the Hunter ability is a bit underwhelming. It provides no help to your fireteam in either PVE or PVP. And honestly, in PVP, it won't extend your lifespan by much, especially given the trend toward team shooter.
These are quibbles, though. I'm still looking forward to day 1 and beyond.
