Have a question for anyone that is considering trusting Bungie.

Does anyone remember Bungie's response to the SBMM post???? There are YouTube videos that still show you how Bungie deals(not addresses or even really talks) with their player base. That one post stayed with me and made me not only scrutinize everything Bungie does but have no faith in Destiny's future. Damn shame too Destiny is such wasted potential for an awesome game.

  • I've enjoyed this game more than any other game I have played so I trust Bungie to entertain me.

I don't trust bungie to make destiny live up to its potential based solely on what I have experienced since prior to the actual launch when they promised the world and delivered a barely a footprint of what we thought we were going to receive. I recognize people are prone to over-hype and take things very literally but this is also something that is predictable and counter-able. I have seen bungie travel to hell on a road paved with good intentions examples of this being balancing patches not being separated between the 2 very different activities with different forms of balance.

I'm not going to go as far as you and say Bungie doesn't talk or listen, because I think on some levels they do. Currently they are doing a lot of talking about D2, and some of it is about things they know will piss off some players. That has an honest and open feel about it. But... no, I don't trust them over all. That bridge was burned on a whole lot of issues over the last three years. Things that are promised but not delivered, nerfs that were "accidents" that remained unchanged, and yes, even the infamous SBMM debacle for which they had to apologize (after getting caught lying about it) and perhaps contributed to the CEO losing his job. I believe what I see. I believe what I play. When Bungie tells me in year one they aren't prioritizing PvP, yet every weapons change is about PvP, actions speak louder than words. I see a few people down the line disagree, fine by me. I've been here since the start and have seen it all go down. Who can forget how Bungie got players to rebuy all of year one content in TTK only to find AFTER the release it was all capped at 170, making it useless to play for a PvE player? Was Bungie forthright about that rather important piece of info? Nope. That's a lie of omission, one easily avoided, but Bungie put sales ahead of honesty and transparency. They knew if they'd told the base what was going to happen too many would have walked. Maybe smart business, but it's still lying. I still do business with them, but it isn't built on trust. I watch the patterns, watch development paths, and if I don't like what I see, I walk. Took a long break starting right before TTK dropped because I knew some bad crap was about to go down, and boy was I right. After about 6 months I caught TTK in a bargain bin sale and jumped back in, and have played since, though nothing like before. I'm going to give D2 a shot because Bungie has been more balanced about the good and bad in reveals. To me, despite what they say, the whole weapons structure is geared toward an MLG competitive mode. That tells me PvP will pull us around by the nose again in D2. I'll play out the campaigns and have my money's worth, but the second the gear I get from the PvE starts getting hammered because PvP players are getting bored, I quit. I'm not reliving that garbage again.

        • The SBMM explanation has already been given. Halo: Reach had similar instances where the community willingly chose to ignore the responses given and said otherwise regardless of whether or not it could be confirmed to be true. This whole concept of whether you trust a developer? #1. They have zero reasons to lie. Tell yourself why they would in the first place. You're teenagers or still figuring things out because it's understandable, but grown adults past 25 typically rarely lie about anything this minor involving a video game. #2. SBMM implies connection priorities aren't given. They have to be to form a connection to a server. Sorry, but basic networking courses in a college anywhere on the globe would tell you the double edged sword was swung back at anyone who argues SBMM is present without CBMM. That's literally your internet to connect to Destiny and placing priority of one over another is a very bad technology based idea. It creates memory allocation and buffer problems for almost everyone including the servers. You want an appropriate balance between 2 out of 3 elements when involved in networking, each one chosen with different strengths and weaknesses. #3. Trust is not something to be earned. You give it willingly (saying this to those too young to understand that you are younger then the rest of us) specifically around topics to help foster understanding of the sciences. Why? Because they could just as easily tell you to go sit in a corner and not share a thing. You're involved with their product and like it or not? People, like in Halo: Reach, have rarely ever been smart enough to discern why you don't argue against the technology. We could just as easily go on a political forum and debate real things there which would get agonizing and boring real fast. We have this website for instance when it was formed during Myth days, my first Bungie game, because a few programmers created this domain name. I'm all for opinions on what you like, dislike, what you want out of your experience, where would you like the story to go, but you also need to respect those who make the game. They did not become game developers to listen to every idea which comes out of the woodwork and when you work on something like this? It's your's to do what you will. That's basic online theology. You don't do something because you dislike it. You do it because it's fun or something you want to do. That also needs to be respected which a lot of users for the past few months are not doing. Why? Because you don't know any better. Simply learn that so you don't repeat the mistake even though the younger one's will make the same mistakes as they get older.

          • Y'all complain way too much. Jesus, man. Does Bungie make mistakes? Of course. Every game developer makes mistakes sometimes. But then why are you still here if Bungie is so bad in your eyes? Did Bungie make some mistakes in regards to Destiny? Yes. I wish the great nerfs (and remember, the nerfs only happened because of the crazy amount of complaining on these forums) of 2015 and 2016 never happened because with the PVE content Destiny has now, combined with the original awesome guns, with some of the current PVP changes (like how there is way less special and heavy ammo, which was much needed) Destiny would be a fantastic game. Here's the bottom line: Bungie is a great game developer. They have made some of the best console games of all-time, revolutionized the FPS genre into what we see today and you're deluding yourself if you believe otherwise. If Destiny and Bungie makes some of you so unhappy, then do something else! Play another game, do something you really enjoy and that makes you happy. And for the record, constructive criticism is needed. Any game developer loves that. It's the only way to improve. Complaining/whining is not helpful, nor is it useful.

              • Once they signed a contract with Activision that's when the Red Flag went up. More importantly is when Deej claimed they valued our time as players, only for Bungie to turn around and release the Taken King and try and force players to have to re-level all their gear. Trust? None from me. I've learned the best thing to do with Destiny is wait till the last piece of dlc releases, then buy the complete game at the end. It will cost you $60 and save you at least $100. Bungie will be done by then messing with the game so if you find a weapon you like there is no need to worry about them ruining it.

Dude, I don't know how you could be current on your Destiny news and still believe that Bungie or the game is in a bad place. Literally, every new interview that is released has positive-culture-change and transparency written all over it. Bungie is more open and more of a two-way street than ever. They signed a contract with the Devil and tried to turn around and act innocent. What's to trust? Edit: this is supposed to be a AAA gaming company and they just told everyone they gutted out D2 of what D1 had and will resell a good portion of it back to you in DLC in D2. For a new gamer this is going to be great because a lot of it will be new content to them. When it comes to a vet you will get things you already had in D1. To bad they don't know how to show a little more appreciation to their fan base that has suck with them this last 3 years
