You should take a look at the most recent poll someone did on the ages of people represented by this population of posters. It's not "definitive" or all inclusive but it gives me, personally, the insight I needed to fully understand what I already hypothesized. The average person in OffTopic is very young. And their brains are still developing, to the point where "reason", "rationality", and forethought/follow-through are not the guiding principles of why someone takes a particular stand or point of view on any given issue. There's all those age appropriate, teenage ways of seeing things and they are influenced by all kinds of things that have nothing to do with the arguments and have no place in a reasonable debate. That's why I decided long ago to never again argue with anyone on this forum. It's not my job to sharpen the wits of these young men and since it's through a medium as archaic as a telegraph, with no tone, facial expression or body language, it would not be an effective forum for sharpening one's wits regardless. All in all, I just do what you suggested. I scroll down. It's pretty easy to do. Find something interesting and read it or don't. And maybe shitpost occasionally just to vent but not for a serious response. I feel like meaningful debate is lost on these forums. Too many heated discussions without any true resolution nor any attempt at one. And my biggest pet peeve, nobody ever concedes anything. In life, you young men will learn, often and I mean [b]often[/b] you are wrong. The sooner you get in touch with this and embrace it, the sooner you can grow and learn from your mistakes. In regards to religion, it's the atheist fundamentalists that get offended and aren't able to hold a civil and decent conversation. In regards to politics, the same goes for leftists. The extremely few atheists that are legitimately rational and the classical liberals can handle it and it's no big deal to them.

You should not advocate for no politics and religion discussions, but instead for a more civil discussion of politics and religion. It's going to exist either way.

Look, a lot of us feel your pain, but I do not see ya'll bumping the other topics up. There are music posts, what are you doing posts, polls, people just talking & only a handful of people talk or bump those. You want to stop them, then start scrolling & help the people talking down the line get trending so people can find them. We can't keep expecting someone else to magically fix a problem that we can easily fix ourselves.

Making posts highlighting the issue won't change it. If you want to see other posts, start posting. Flood Offtopic with as many posts on as many topics as you can. It's the only way to drown out the religion and politics.
