I'm well aware that Rift is not the most popular game in the Crucible, but it's my favorite way to play Destiny. Please allow me to explain.
I've been playing shooters with a Clan - the same Clan - since Halo 2. We've taken a long path to get to Destiny, migrating through Call of Duty, Gears of War, Battlefield, Grand Theft Auto, Titanfall, and anything else that let has let us play as a team. Throughout those journeys, I've always loved objective-based gameplay.
My favorite scenarios occur when a game lets me acquire a crucial element (i.e. "Ball Taken!" or "I've got the bomb!") and choose my own path. I've never been comfortable defending a fixed position, and I'll usually lose a one-on-engagement in a kill-or-be-killed scenario. In a gametype like Rift, however, a gamer like me gets to shine. I know I'm not alone.
It's a rush to collect the Spark and go into full Quarterback Mode. I'm always telling my Clan that, if you want the Spark, you need to be willing to call the shots. The perfect Spark runner has a good sense for enemy choke-points. They link up with teammates and drive forward as a unified front. Or, they can use those same teammates to lure enemy defenders away from the flank they intend to exploit. Some of the best moves in Rift have nothing to do with pulling the trigger. I love the mental game - the tactical cat and mouse of it all.
I know... I know... This makes me "part of the problem," entering Rift with a solid team and winning through the brute strength of coordination. Playing Rift reminds me of amazing times that I had with the same old friends playing Assault or Capture the Flag. You can't change what you love. I'll take the scorn that comes from what we call "Victory through superior recruitment" if it inspires just one of you to go here and dip your toe in the water.
Please don't be mad at me for saying so. Please understand that I've been cannon fodder in every other Iron Banner. I've caught more than my fair share of Nova Bombs in the face like an idiot as I tried to control Zone B all by myself. I've been sniped out of the air like a clay pigeon as I floated around on Warlock wings in a game of Clash. I've bathed every map of the Crucible in my own blood - and I've been happy to do so. I love playing Destiny, and I don't mind giving you my Light. Someone has to lose, and it usually tends to be me. With Rift, I get to enjoy what's in my wheelhouse. It's been refreshing.
So, if you've played Rift this past week, I thank you. This Iron Banner has been a great time, and I truly appreciate the people who have played with me, even if against me. I've added some much-needed Light to my Warlock. I got to reconnect with some people on my friends list in the ways we used to play. Much love for every single Guardian we've met up with through Matchmaking - and that one lone wolf we pulled onto our team.
Mind you, the Crucible Team did not put Rift into Iron Banner circulation because I asked them to. I think maybe they know that there are players like me in the community, and they wanted to give us a chance to play some ball. Peace.

작성자: texasguru710 12/13/2016 5:44:11 PMWow you guys obviously got a good education. Taking one thing from another game wether you made it or not is copying old content. Saying that they made both games is irrelevant and goes to show how dumb people have to switch wording around to try and make other people look stupid. You guys are the best. Troll on!

It wasn't so bad this time around for me, and I usually loathe the Crucible as a whole especially since I don't have a clan to romp around with. Compared to just straight up Clash or even Control, I had a lot more fun with this one. When I entered games in progress, I actually had a sense of "We can still win this!", whereas Clash and Control would be like "No hope for this one". I will admit that playing with randoms sometimes netted you a team of people who were thinking "Why is Clash being called Rift?", which is aggrevating to say the least. But when you got the right people, we'd be cooking with fire! Explosions everywhere wherever the spark was charging, and snagging the spark right from under the other team's nose was a thrill. Clash and Control are fine, but they are too straight forward. Supremacy is a mess as a shotgunner's wet dream. Rift seems far more a game meant to be in Iron Banner because it is more a team sport than the others. And even if you go in as a solo player, you're not immediately landing in the meat grinder; you have a chance to save the day.

작성자: Outbreak_Unperfected 12/13/2016 4:47:36 PMDon't let them get you down. Rift is great fun either with a team or solo. Solo is definitely more challenging but I usually assume my roll of protecting the Spark Runner and controlling sections of the map or just causing havoc for the other team. I played probably 50 games and enjoyed most of them. But that's an online multiplayer game. You're searching for those gameplays, those high scores, those dominating wins and trying your best to ignore the bad games and red bar warriors. ***praying for a rebalance patch with 2.5.

4 답변I actually liked IB Rift. It's interesting how a group of randoms can come to act in a coordinated way without even speaking to each other. I would like to use the team voice channel, but for some reason most people don't activate it on default. Maybe it's because of those many onnoying gitz who munch crackers all the time and have unbearably loud music playing in the bg.

작성자: PSD 12/13/2016 5:37:20 PMDeej, today people really do not know what they want. The internet/media has Everyone spoiled with instant communication world wide. They ask for something then complain about it. When grifball launched back in the days, it was a different way to play PvP. This game type was more like football. Rift however, Is fun when A team dominates but sucks if you match up a 6 man team and your alone. I personally enjoy playing this game type when I'm not doing trials.

I do enjoy rift, but hardly anyone ever uses their mics for communications if you're a solo player like me. Especially with a gamertag like mine, people still think I'm a kid and squeaker xD Had this gamertag since the Halo 2 days. Anyways, when I call out the shots when I tried running the spark, my teammates either try flanking them and dying horribly on that end or stand back and let me get killed. All I needed are two players to guard my front and two more to cover our flanks and rear and the last one to be our scout and pick off the goal defenders, create an opening for me. But being a solo player sucks and I'm stuck with people who can't even pick up the spark or even attempt it...so I've been playing Rift so defensively with only my Hung Jury SR4 and Queenbreakers Bow in hand.

I like to flank the enemy team to keep its attention away from the spark runner or get some picks to get a numbers advantage. I played a lot with 80% of my time solo and ever with a team greater than 4. I played enough to get all 3 of my characters to rank 5 and got another to rank 5 on my wife's account. I had a really good time. I am not a PVP junkie either I prefer PVE, but IB had great rewards to pull me that way. The SBMM change was not felt so I am even happier about that. Hey Deej thanks for sharing slaying is not the only way to play in the crucible and you can find a way to make things fun for yourself.

I enjoyed Rift, if I didn't get the spark, I was their meat shield! Chasing our Runner and see someone shooting them so I make sure I step into that firing lane and give them as much time as I can since sometimes that is all we have time for! :) The problem with Rift and IB/any Crucible is the sheer amount of players who feel K/D is more important than anything else! When the enemy has the spark running for your Rift and you are the ONLY one running to cut them off while the rest of the team is running a different direction for a kill that is BS especially when repeated match after match. Not Bungie fault though, just too many self focused Gaurdians out there who forget there is no "I" in "team". May have to just LFG next IB for a team that works together. :)

Self professed hater of rift here, I love all other six v six game modes but for some reason rift never appealed to me. I don't know if my mission to improve myself in all game modes or if my clan groups I was running with this time around were just better, I don't know but I actually found myself enjoying IB at times this time around. I won't lie, my favorite moment was when we were at a 2k deficit and the other team only needed a few kills to win it was an awesome feeling to grab that spark and come in with a clutch detonation to get us the win there. Then there were times where the enemy team would have the spark locked down and I would feel a hopeless sense of dread from the old anger I had towards rift returning, but then we'd push them back slightly if only to be outplayed by the enemy, but I had to still tip my hat to the enemy team for just being better than us. I guess what I'm saying is, no matter how much you suck or hate a certain game mode the only thing that can help you enjoy it more is to just play it more and try and improve yourself in it. Now for some they won't want to do that and that's fine, that's their choice in this game. I'm just saying that maybe we should listen to the players like Deej who have that one game mode where they shine and we should let them shine. I'm not the best rift player and probably never will be, but I personally can't wait for IB control to make the rounds again so I can be in my home turf. TLDR; some game modes suit others better than others and I will find ways to improve my gameplay in them and love them as much as IB Control

11 답변Well I'm glad a community manager liking rift thinks that is justification for having it set as the iron banner game mode. Still pretty confused as to why this was posted.

1 답변
I'm well aware that Rift is not the most popular game in the Crucible
Only Salvage is less popular. The problem with Iron Banner rift is that it royally screws solo players. DeeJ should try playing solo and report back.

When I play it, Rift can go three ways; Amazing tight match, complete overkill, or completely wasted. I only have my GF normally with me, so we can only coordinate so much, but usually big losses always occur from bad teams. If that's your case, get on public mic and take reins folks, you can only do so much to protect that rift. Also nerf fusion rifles And also deej thanks again for the signature!

4 답변Personally I despise Rift. I played Iron Banner for a full day straight to try and get my rank up before it ended, and only won two matches out of dozens - and one of them was because of a glitch that only spawned in one person on each team where the other guy quit right after spawning, giving me the win by default. I get that some people like it but losing by Mercy rule four out of every five matches, and just plain normal losing in the other one, isn't what I'd call fun. If I have to rely on lag and glitches in order to get anywhere, something is wrong.

5 답변Rift is definitely team based and makes for a crappy grind if you want to sit down and just jump in. It's not fun having to find a group every time you want to play for a little while just to get a win. Maybe give us some points toward Rep even if we lose. There was a few times this iron banner where I maxed out my medallions and kept losing. Teammates were just standing around afk and the other team worked together well. Then when I got to orbit it broke up the teams. Then I'd either get matched into an already losing team or just get stomped again. Also if I did find a team that worked well together and we dominated then that team was just broken up and I'd start all over. See where I'm going here?

1 답변I mean personally I can respect this. I hate rift, with a burning passion. But if there are people that love rift and hate control/clash they should be able to play a game type they enjoy as well.
