Scapegoating Video Games - The Government needs to Back Off
It looks like the video game blame is only about to intensify.

So Flood has it gone too far yet? Should we be worried at this point? They seem hell bent on blaming this on someone, and it seems that if the NRA can't be that someone it's going to be the video game industry. Just take a look at those Facebook comments from the day of the shooting. The only basis they had was that the wrongly accused brother like Mass Effect. THE WRONG MAN. The actual perpetrator did not in fact play video games at all. So where is the basis for the argument? No where.

They can be ignorant all they want while I keep enjoying my fps games along with all my other games like Madden and racing games that have [i]nothing[/i] to do with guns. Maybe because NFL allows madden games to be made they will have to ban real life NFL because oh no the NFL supports a video game! It would not surprise me if there were a few nutheads out there that actually believed that kinda crap that every video game no matter the source material in it is evil lol

They are just as responsible, as it is them who spreads the news of this murderer, who would have gone down in history as a no name fool rather that a world renown criminal. Its what a lot of criminals aim for, that world renown status. Whats more, its them who causes this hysteria that attacks communities, industries, ect in order to get people to forget this.

3 답변People are scapegoating everything. No one is willing to man up and say that we need better mental health care. All of these mass murderers have mental issues. All of these mass murderers have famalies and friends. Why did no one say anything? Why did no one try to help them? Now we get to the point of, "Oh its the fault of guns," "Oh it's the fault of violent video games and movies." Both excuses are bullshit. The only thing that pulled the trigger was the person behind it. Guns didn't do it them selves, games didn't do it, movies didn't do it, it was the psycho that did it. When the NRA came out the Friday after the murder with their press conference and I read the part about games, I was a little annoyed, but then I got to thinking. It was not so much an attack on games as form of calling out the Media in general. We glorify violence, we revel in it with Movies, TV shows, and games. Yet the same people who turn out violent media are the first people to blame an inanimate object for a tragedy. They don't see any fault that they may have. Do I personally believe violent media is at fault? No, not at all. There is no one really to blame but the murderer. Though we do need to have a serious discussion on the effects of news media in the reporting of a mass murder. The Murderer is almost idolized. They publish his name, his "kill count," his motives, everything. Then they immediately attack firearms and continue to idolize the murderer. That is why these killings happen, because we report it with such fervor that it almost cries out for a copy cat.

5 답변I find it ridiculous that they are blaming Mass Effect 3. A single kid dying gives Shepard nightmares for the rest of the game. But it seems that having a character feeling bad about the kid's death promotes violence against children.

If video games made people violent, there would be millions and millions of murderers and psychopaths more than normal. As long as people are ignorant to that fact and to evidence for it, they will blame video games for the bad things that happen.

With the agenda to ban guns, you also cause the push to ban anything remotely violent related. People have no idea what the hell they are doing when they ask or agree with government intrusion.

They blame like this so they can sway the public's mind away from the hard decisions. Shooting games can contribute to shootings, but are never the soul cause. Why not direct your attention to the mentally troubled and give them actual help instead of prescribing them medicines that just turn the patient into a zombie, which is something that would actually help. It's like standing up a man with a broken leg instead of fixing it; He may look good on the outside, but he's still screwed up on the inside.

They can blame video games all they want, it won't matter to me. Edit: After reading those facebook comments... I don't know what to say. Though seeing as most of them are women is amusing.

6 답변Games are too big a part of the mainstay economy these days for any serious action to be taken. Also, I trust Biden/Obama to make intelligent decisions about it and not jump the gun on violent media like the Christian Right.

8 답변People see that guns were used to cause the tragedy at Sandy Hook. They don't want their guns taken away. They see Mass Effect, a video game. It has guns. They immediately go straight to that as a cause for the killings. That's how I see it. If this were the case, I would have killed about 100 million people by now seeing as how many violent video games surround me. I don't have the slightest inkling to kill a person and I have not killed a person in real life yet.
