You totally want to start leveling destruction. Get it to 100. The master spells are super fun. Also there's a perk that lets you summon 2 things, get that and get summon dremora lord even tho it's only expert it's the one you want. Then you can walk around with two badass body guards who talk shit too everybody plus your companion. Other then that, unrelenting force shout, become ethereal, and of course whirlwind tempest for certain hallways gaps and traps. Muffle and invisibility if you want stealth Ebonflesh if you know you gonna get hit

Level up your enchanting skill tree, and blacksmith. Craft insane endgame armor with 2 enchantments per piece. This means you can actually cast spells for the free if you've got the corresponding enchantment. So say you wanna hurl unlimited destruction magicka.. 2 pieces of armor would have the "-25% destruction magicka consumption" enchantment. 4 pieces should hit 100%, fully allowing you to utilize destruction spells. This can be done for any tree of magicka, ie conjuration or alteration. I usually only make an unlimited magicka set for conjuration and destruction. Side note, just because you've got unlimited magicka doesn't mean you can use every spell. It's unlimited in that you've still got a specific amount that can be raised when you level up, but that number determines the spells you can/can't use. So if you only have like 230 magicka you can't cast a spell that costs more than 230. Obviously any spell that costs 230 or less can be be used unlimited (provided it falls into the magicka tree that your armor boosts).

The stats you want to focus on if you're looking to go pure mage are destruction and healing. Although, to be honest, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim isn't known for a vast library of spells.

I pre ordered mine years ago. I have the base game and DLC on PC, we get the upgrade for free. As for playing a mage. You wait and see if the magic mods get moved over to console and you download one of those. They add back in spell crafting that Bethesda took out and you make your own spells to kill all the things.

There is a perk in destruction magic that causes enemies to stagger when you hit them with magic, it makes pretty much every enemy and easy kill since they constantly get staggered and so can not get near you. Other than that magic is pretty straight forward in skyrim, just read the descriptions and try them all out. You can use a different spell in each hand or duel wield a spell and make some larger pretty cool looking ones if you have the perks for it.
