Part of the reason I've been so hyped for Rise of Iron is the revival of Thorn for the new play cycle. I never got my hands on this gun in year one, so it's exciting to be able to use the weapon I got so salty about as a fresh player. Except, like many other Guardians, I won't be able to. The Thorn of today is vastly different from the rage-inducing killer of old. Some of these nerfs were deserved; two tapping with the highest RoF archetype is a bit ridiculous, and for a while it had no counter. But at this point, a Common Hand Cannon can outperform an Exotic, and that's pretty goddamn sad. This weapon tickles with its DoT equaling less than 2 rounds out of my Monte Carlo (an Auto Rifle), it doesn't do all that much direct damage (I've seen clips of 30 on a headshot; that's Pulse damage), and for some incomprehensible reason, you nerfed it yet again with this weapon balance patch, bringing its already pretty average range down sharply and adding to it the ghost bullets hated by Hand Cannon users everywhere. The weapon is almost unusable now, so that begs the question: Why even bother bringing it back? It would be like training in gymnastics every day for 20 years, entering the Olympics, winning gold, and finding out the medals have been replaced by single pieces of string cheese. That's how disappointing Thorn's advancement is seeming.

Here is the story of Thorn... It began it's career as an incredibly hard to get (but incredibly powerful) exotic that was a year one favorite. It could 2 shot headshot, you could kind of see people though walls, and it had decent range. This weapon was to overpowered in PVP so in TTK, Bungie nerfed it. This was entirely justifiable. It now could only 3 shot bodyshot. Thorn now became a prized relic of year one and mainly served to take up vault space for most guardians. But a handful of clever guardians rediscovered Thorn's beauty and every few crucible matches you would see these guardians using this dreaded hand canon. But then, for some reason, Thorn got nerfed AGAIN for some reason with Taken Spring (April update). Now poor Thorn can only 4 shot bodyshot, the glare got nerfed (for no reason, it was just an aesthetic effect), and the time the burn lasts got nerfed. Now all that made Thorn useful is gone. Thorn was reduced to a good hand canon with great range and a little extra damage. But Bungie wasn't done with Thorn yet, they nerfed Thorn a final time, this time reducing the range. Now with RoI, Thorn is coming back, but only after you complete a difficult quest and infuse it up. Also, any guardian can nerf Thorn when they equip an artifact. So Thorn will now be reduced to a middle range, average damage hand canon that has no purpose other than take up an exotic slot that you spent months trying to earn. Exotics are supposed to be special Bungie... What's special about Thorn now?

1 답변It's not thorn. Just like this isn't the Bungie we used to love. Just a name and a shell that belies its true form.

10 답변The same reason Ghorn is being brought back. So you will buy ROI. Bungie needs to completely remove all y1 Exotics and a few of y2. Then pull their head out of where the sun don't shine and make Exotics that work across the entire board. Will this happen? No. But it would be a smart move because bringing crap back that doesn't work in this game is getting really stupid and shows how stupid Bungie actually is.

2 답변I don't understand you people, stop looking at the thorns dot as a finisher, look at it as a tool to increase the time before the enemy's shield recharges, I mean comon, no one wants to relive the pre nerf thorn in pvp.

1 답변Any one with a brain will just skip that quest now. It was hardly worth it before the last nerf but now with the range drop and how hand cannons rely on range so much there is just no reason to bother with it.

They brought back Thorn because it's a bullshit move to inflate the perception of "new content." Same with Gjallarhorn. The more they can rehash/reskin, the more they can say "Look at all this new content we're giving you" while not adding as much "new content" as they'd like us to believe.

It's range was average? With send it it had a higher range than most other hand cannons in the game (which that was pretty much what most people ran on it). Also it doesn't do 30 to the head if you're engaging in its ideal range. It's still going to be a monster in crucible. It's just not going to be as much of one. Now with send it it has slightly less range than the first curse.

2 답변They'd run out of new ideas for new Exotics so that had to bring a few things from year 1 back.

2 답변I actually played with thorn today. I can't help but think there might be an Unmentioned BUFF to it in closer range. I was doing much better with it today than previously

1 답변The Thorn has its DoT to prolong health regeneration so that the user can go for cover and regenerate some health before his opponent. That's what a good strategist would tell you. Have a good day, sir.
