Games like Destiny/the Division are the future of shooters my friend. Someone just has to implement the idea correctly.

That has yet to happen. And while these types of games certainly have their own niche, so do many other styles of games. I don't think one will really come out superior than the others; the interests of the gaming community are too diverse.

But, take a look at Halo and Call of Duty and other online games. See how they are moving to this quick paced action/large online gameplay? And how more and more there is this loot driven aspect to games? What I see is the shooter genre beginning to merge lots of MMO elements, and games like Destiny are the beginning of it.

That's true. Which is cool in some ways and scary in others, since these aspects of games are so tricky to get just right, hence the many changes destiny has gone through. And more devs are adding micro transactions to their games-- which is okay on its own, but when they focus on making sure players who throw more money at them get an edge, it becomes a problem.
