It seems that some people still don't understand how this update is free, so I'm going to do my best to explain it.
For starters, just because you need TTK in order to access this update, does not mean you paid for it. If you buy a souvenir cup at an amusement park that gets free refills, you're not paying for the refills, they are free. While you did pay for the thing that allows you to use the free refills, the refills themselves are free (I understand the semantics of that and I know that's not a perfect metaphor, but just take it at face value because I couldn't think of a better one).
When you purchased TTK, you were paying for everything advertised as a part of TTK, which means the 320 light cap, Sleeper Simulant, Zhalo Supercell, new missions, etc. You are not entitled to anything else because you bought TTK. You are not entitled to dlc, you are not entitled to events, or anything else. Zip, nothing, nada. You are also not entitled to exotics that may have been advertised or discovered that were not released. Things change in production, and not everything advertised is always included in the final product. While I understand that that is not exactly what's happening with those exotics in destiny, it's still true that you are not entitled to them. Think about it like how movie trailers sometimes include scenes that don't make it into the final cut.
The new light level, any new gear, content, or anything else added in the update is being given to you free of charge. It doesn't require you to pay for it, so it is free.
points to the first person who makes an economics joke about nothing being free
Edit:
For the record, I was expecting someone to make a joke about opportunity cost or free lunch or something. I gotta say I'm a little disappointed that there weren't any.
You didn't get them free, you're buying the material cost of the syrup, carbon and flavoring with the cup. Business men are savy like that. Try not to be an asshole in the future.

It is to me because the only amount of money I have paid for the taken king is the $23.42 I spent in store to get it. So for me its free since I'm not paying more:) for someone who doesn't have the taken king well sorry according to bungie you are shit outta luck

작성자: freshlydunbread 4/1/2016 2:15:37 PMYeah, and GTA Online was "free", but only if you bought a copy of GTA5. Just because you throw a bunch of legalese at it doesn't make it anything other than what it is.
The new light level, any new gear, content, or anything else added in the update is being given to you free of charge. It doesn't require you to pay for it, so it is free.
So someone who didn't pay for TTK can access this update, then?? So if someone does buy TTK after April 12th, the update won't then be included???

So while for SOME people it might be free (those that have not purchased any silver whatsoever) it's not actually "free" It was paid for. It's so -blam!-ing simple and obvious it still astounds me that some people don't get it.

Actually, to use your own analogy, this would be like buying a pre-filled souvenir cup at an amusement park, then paying for two refills, then paying for a third refill, and then the guy serving tells you he spilt some of your drink into the drip tray but you can have it poured into your cup because you paid for the third refill.

No you don't seem to get how this wasn't free. Nothing (especially from Activision) is free, but they will cut corners to make things seem like they are to people like you who don't think about it. Up until the introduction of silver, nothing was "free" (not that they are now) because they needed a source of money to fund everything, as does everything in this world. Tons of people were moaning about how these DLC's were overpriced. What would a company logically do? They would logically find a way to fix this supposed issue, so they could gain a better reputation which translates into better sales. There are 2 options; either ignore the fan base and keep charging as planned for DLC, or you can hide said costs behind microtransactions. They did the latter. Your average person on Destiny has most likely dropped $20 or so on silver which is your average cost of the DLC. There are outliers that either spend more or spend less, but it equals out to about the cost of a DLC at the end of the day. That money doesn't disappear into nowhere, it goes back into development, and also partially into profit for Activision/Bungie. This directly pays for the DLC, and therefore makes it not free as it has been paid for.

This is a well worded post. The only small flaw is that bungie actually did mention in one if their weekly updates that they won't be any dlc, but small event available throughout the TTK. Events like slr, crimson doubles, etc. So, yeah anyone who hadn't purchased TTK then had this knowledge before hand.

1 답변This arguement again? People dont seem to know the difference between update and expansion. TTK was an expansion, they added immensely to the game. So they charged you. This is an update, they reskinned some stuff and increeased light level. That makes it just part of the game. I mean cmon, had they charged for an update wtf would pay for a reskinned POE?
Nevermind, Im sure most of these idiots would.
