I'm Christian so hate all you want were used to it, but this is not a hate thread, it's a simple question....errr well not simple but ends in a paradox so I would like for you to answer the question because I can't understand it.
So the true definition of atheist is " one who doesn't believe in God or Gods."
Okay let me out it this way. To be an atheist you don't believe in Gods. But without gods you couldn't be atheist. Therefore being an atheist is a paradox. There is no way to not believe in a god without acknowleding that that person or thing is or once was a god?

1 답변you guys believe in a god/multiple gods, we dont we arent aknowledging that a god/gods exist, we are aknowledging that people that believe in god/gods exist

1 답변I don't understand your logic, here. You're saying its impossible to not believe in something without believing in it?
-
1 답변No, you can't be an atheist without the idea of a god, not the existence of one. It's a small but very important distinction.

Hey, as a polite atheist, starting off with "we're used to people being mean to us" as a Christian... Isn't going to do this post any favors. You're the majority, not a minority You're a member of the largest religion in the entire world. The leader of your faith (Catholics) has the authority (STILL) to influence global politics with his approval, and his dissent. I'm not going to address the point you made, I've learned enough that I know we won't convince each other of anything. I wish you well, and hope you have a nice day. I also apologize on behalf of the more young and trendy atheists who must insult others, they do not reflect the opinions of every atheist. Have a nice day.

4 답변I think that your definition of an Atheist is slightly off. What I consider to be an Atheist is "one that does not believe that a god exists". Acknowledging that people have come up with the concept of a god while not believing that any exist is in no way contradictory.

You really need to work on your comprehension. A "theist", by DEFINITION, is some who posses an active belief in a deity (or more). The suffix "a" is used for negation, and is the exclusion of EVERYTHING it suffixes. EVERYTHING. If you were to draw a Venn Diagram, both sets include everything... There IS NO grey area. It's kinda like "being a little pregnant" -- either you are or you aren't. Thomas Huxley did try to fabricate a "grey area" in the term "agnostic" (again "a" from negation and gnostic stemming from an early Christian sect that claimed to have absolute knowledge). He tried to make some of middle ground for those that refused to take an intellectual stand. But the problem is the original terms are exclusionary. In reality, you wind up with theistic agnostics (eg,"I believe there is a god, but who knows if it is the God of the Christians, or the Buddhists, or whatever") or atheistic agnostics (eg, don't know if they believe there is a god, or never heard of such a concept, such as a baby). So being an atheist is NOT "I know there is no God", as that is just a sub-set of atheist. Although that's what most people think of, that only speaks to a more limited education. Second off, atheism has nothing to do with hate. Irrelevant to the definition. If I hate you, it is for sloppy thinking trying to pass as some fashion of erudite statement. Has nothing to do with religion... I don't discriminate.

작성자: Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds 12/26/2015 9:35:30 PMIt's a lack of belief. You can not believe but also claim not to know at the same time. The two are not mutually exclusive. I don't know if there is a higher power. I also have yet to hear a convincing enough case for one, so I choose not to believe that there is one anyway. Then I also have to ask where this power then came from. If we must have been created by something, I'm going to hold any potential creator to that same standard of logic. If there is a higher power that is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent, this means that he is directly responsible for everything in one way or another. That being said, I have to consider the following. Out of the following three statements, only two can be true at the same time. 1. God exists 2. Evil exists 3. God doesn't exist These are some of the reasons I choose not to believe.

4 답변Wow, your post gave me brain cancer. Atheism is the natural state of people until they learn religion. Atheism did not need to be defined until theism was invented.

Do you want to argue that if you accept the idea of God as the greatest possible being, then given that idea of God, it is necessary that God exists? That's the ontological argument for the existence of God. It's been around for a thousand years or so. You could fill a hundred books with the writings of many intelligent people throughout history who have argued for and against it.
