Light cannot live without darkness, but the opposite isn't true. Darkness, for a lack of better description, is the absolute absence of light. Meaning, that no matter how pure something is, it can be corrupted, but evil is universal. Remove all light, and darkness remains. Remove all shadows? Well...light will create more. Your "good" is someone else's evil.

So if you think about it every day is a new year. Edit: So why isn't everyday New Year's Eve and New Year's Day?
