During years of development issues arise, whether it's hardware limitations, time limitations, loss of employees, lack of resources, the nature of spaghetti coding, the list keeps going. Not to mention hard deadlines and having pressure to hit that date no matter what it takes. Sometimes things are left behind on the cutting room floor. We used to have to wait for a sequel to get this content, but now with technology where it's at, we can have it added to a seemingly finished product. This seems like a win for everyone, but there will always be those people who feel that they deserved more. If this is your stance then my advice to you is to wait on purchasing a game from now on. They will always be adding things through DLC and if you wait you can get the entire experience for one price. Being an early adopter will always have this same outcome. So the question is: Do you want to a part of an evolving series, or just wait until it's been fleshed out completely and enjoy it then? There is no right or wrong answer. The choice is yours, and yours alone, but stamping your feet around like you know everything about the process that brought the game to light is just plain silly. I hope you find something you enjoy rather than hanging out in a community for a game you seem not enjoy.

  • Those were not the issues that came up. What came up was a greedy Jason Jones who desperately wanted to cash in on the "non-linear, open world" buzz word craze and changed the entire game AFTER it was already supposed to have been shipped out. The Staten game was finished, the dreadnought was finished, the Temple of Osiris was finished, everything we've spent $140 on was mostly finished when vanilla Destiny finally shipped. If this was a "development issue" or a budget crisis no one would be that upset. This was greed; pure and simple.

  • Generalizing industry challenges doesn't make the specific error's this developer made acceptable. There is a certain standard gamer's hold to a game at a minimum to justify the $60 purchase plus the subsequent DLC. A game evolving into a better game is one thing. A game evolving because it's still in Beta is another thing. Don't make me pay for an unfinished game. As far as whether or not I'll wait for games in the future? Yes, I've made the TotalBiscuit commitment to no longer pre-ordering games. I'm giving all games at least a 24 hour waiting period to make sure it's working without major errors. For single-player experiences that take 30-40 minimum to finish I'll wait a couple of weeks to make sure another Mass Effect 3 doesn't happen to me. The games that have slowly pushed me to this commitment are: Mass Effect 3, Halo 4, Halo: MCC, and Destiny.

The only option we have is to generalize because we are not a part of the company. The only people who know for sure what happened are internal and bound by NDAs. As for the price, I feel I got more than my $60 worth for vanilla Destiny, as well as the extra money for the DLC, so I'm not the camp that feels jaded, and let's be honest. Nobody made you buy the game. That being said I'm also waiting on games from now on, because I've noticed that whenever I buy a game I just go back to Destiny. I'll agree to disagree.

  • No. That is not the only option. There is plenty of verifiable facts that lead us to these conclusions long before confirmation in this article. Timetables, announcements, terminations, and Marty's testimony. You don't have to believe the anonymous sources, but you can't dismiss it. Because, if they're right, it means this mess was the direct result of the dev's incompetence and specifically people in the Board of Directors.
