I think you're suffering from confirmation bias. I didn't get that out of the kotaku article at all. Certainly some assets were reused, but TTK story arc was clearly never part of the original story (though the location was included).
I don't know how I'd feel about Destiny without the Director and the open world patrol zones, etc... These were (apparently) not included in the original either. I'd like to believe that the execs saw this as an opportunity to increase the longevity of the game per their 10 yr commitment. Imagine a single linear story line spanning that long and still holding players attention from day 1.
Lastly, microtransactions were negotiated to replace future DLC costs. You don't have to buy any emotes, but you'll still get the next "DLC's" for free. Sounds like a good thing to me.

Micro transactions were introduced as a way to curb the loss in revenue from not selling dlc because they can't meet the contractual deadlines. "Free dlc" has never been confirmed. If they were concerned about coming up with enough content for 2 dlc this year how much do you think we're really going to get?

Good point but there are already exotics in the armory that people can't get. That lends itself to the idea at least some sort of free content is coming. Not to mention a lot of games are starting to follow this model to success. Microtransactions with free multiplayer maps. And I think a lot of destiny players wouldn't buy a second season pass. So it seems possible.

I'm just saying it's a sizable amount that could be indicative of an upcoming dlc episode. And my guess is that it will be free based on what I said before. I think the simple fact that you're right, they're in the game now (someone even has one through a mess up in the game) and if they charged people for access people would flip. I'm not saying those exotics in the armory are going to supplement for "free dlc"
