It's always been like this, in a team oriented game you'd think people would want your team mates to have the best weapons and gear but not the Destiny community. Oh no, these people want to feel like special little snowflakes and actually get pissed off when their fellow guardians get the gear they have. Everyone is just out for themselves and its quite frankly pathetic, the majority of the community is just a bunch of cry babies. Yes, the majority, you just have to look at the forums everyday to see that.
