Hey there, how's it going? First off, as someone who considers himself as a vet of Destiny but not an elite player, I have to say, I stand in amazement at some of the things you guys can do. Really I do. Single handedly taking down Trials while carrying 2 other people? Wow. Soloing Crota back when it was cool? Amazing. Going Chuck Norris on the game and beating it with just your fists? Unthinkable. You really do incredible things and when I'm a witness in it...it's hard sometimes to stay in the game because I want to just watch how you own Destiny like Neo owns The Matrix :)
In all sincerity, it is amazing the things you do and as a veteran Destiny player who handles himself fine but isn't elite, It's a joy to watch. The thing is though, I am trying to get better too. Having a full time job and family and whatnot means I have to balance priorities out quite a bit. It's bad enough I've had one too many sleep deprived nights so I can fit everything in, but as a result I am a few steps behind you. I accept it. Thing is though, I want to be as good as you someday. I don't want to be carried...I want to learn...get better...so I can help others and maybe even someday help you.
The problem is though, sometimes being elite means you lose patience with the rest of the destiny world because we're not destroying the game like you. I can imagine that can be frustrating because it slows you down. Knowing you can travel 80mphs in a game where many of the players are going 50-60 can be a strain. The thing is though, there's an awesome opportunity you have here where you can make the community better: you can teach us. you can be patient with us. You can help us see things the way you do. Doing this accomplishes several objectives. 1) you make us better so you can get things done quicker when you do need help. 2) We get better and can take on new challenges we never thought we could. 3) Most importantly the community gets friendlier because we're paying it forward...helping each other.
When we don't do that.....when we say "I'm carrying the team". "You guys suck". "Get good". If you think about it...it accomplishes nothing. All it does is separate us where players call you names/expletives and you call us names as a result. The only result is a divisive community. The social experience is the heart of the Destiny universe and attitude is everything. We don't need to create lines breaking off those connections, do we?
So...if you want us to 'get good'....show us. Teach us....be patient with us and, most importantly. ENCOURAGE us. That's paying it forward and that is the key to finding more like yourselves. You never know....by following that method someday we may be able to HELP you. To teach you a trick that we caught on. It's a win win. YES, it does mean we have to listen too. Not rage. Not give up. Practice. We have to do our end of the bargain. I guarantee you though there are many of us that DONT want carried. We want to accomplish. Achieve.
For the record, I know many elite players who DO everything they can to help and to you I tip my hat! Thanks for helping me see things the way you do. If you don't though....all I'm doing is encouraging you to reconsider your strategy. You still are amazing and this isn't an open letter to make you feel bad...but instead to see perspective. Nothing more. I will always have your back if you ever try to find some way possible to solo Kings Raid (sorry, I can't see how though lol but I will watch). I will celebrate with you. Be in awe....and give you the props you rightly deserve.
A little kindness goes a long way and helps everyone. Just something to consider.

PS-if you want the backstory. just ask and I'll gladly tell it. The message here is what's most important.
EDIT: just a very gracious thank you to all who responded. This community can be amazing. Even if you didn't agree I appreciate and respect your counterpoints :). Hope to see you out there

1 답변join a clan and get better. that's my two cents and that's what I did. I only run raids and nightfalls with them to save the frustration of posting unnecessary posts such as these. not everyone is going to change because you want them to.

1 답변It's hard being An elite player and dealing with non elites sometimes because the amount of effort to achieve the same goal isn't the same. I would definitely help a group in crucible but with a raid it's much different because unless everyone is on the same page all the time it won't work

2 답변Spent 3 hours trying to help ppl do the raid and didnt even get to Golgoroth. I'll try to help but if I can tell it isn't going to be completed I'm not gonna stick around.

1 답변Don't let the other impatient people bring ya down man, practice makes perfect, it takes time to perform well and some people don't think about others, merely themselves. Good luck to ya on the battlefield guardian.

3 답변I'm usally the go too guardian when someone wants to see what the mercury chest looks like in person or to test out a black spindle. I am simply that someone that has lead countless inexperienced teams through raids over and over again. I sometimes stay at the back listening to strats and go along untill I hear someone crack then swiftly swoop in and suggest strats accordingly. I never once went out and called anyone bad or mention get good simply because it's not in my heart to hurt or offend anyone purposely. Sure we all shout but it's to get everyone re focused. It's good to read that people are appreciative of the amount of help received . it's something I've been and will keep doing just as long as what ever the event is keeps us engaged. Laters!

2 답변I really like your point and that's why I ran multiple clan members on muiltiple runs through the black spindle mission the other night. I had already got it but their excitement when the sniper and sometimes the ship dropped was awesome! Sometimes I am on the other side like in the raid last Friday being helped by a 303 light clan member learn all the intricate details of kingsfall raid by moving through it slowly and listening carefully. I'm sure eventually I'll be helping others with the raid. Good post though OP. Truth is.... Your target audience will struggle with this concept.

I help people all I can when I do raids. But when I am going 80mph and some of my team is going 20mph I can't help them, they are little 5 year olds that only got to the high level because they started playing after Dark Below (When they changed the way to leveling up *kinda*).

4 답변Nice post guardian! I feel the same as you and help when I can whenever I see low levels running about the planets. I have yet to come across a real grade A elitist a-hole. Fortunately for me, I don't play crucible too much and that's where you tend to find the pricks.

The destiny community is pretty helpful already. Because of the mix of pvp and pve, you cant help but help someone or be helped. There's always gonna be dbags becuase thats gaming for you. There's alot of children who play

7 답변Tl;DR Guessing something along the lines of another blankets assumption that all elite players are assholes and how we should carry inexperienced players through activities they aren't ready for. Right?
-
5 답변This is stupid. It's a video game, why should go players be mentors to others who aren't as good like myself. That makes no sense.

2 답변This is very humble and sincere, but we all know that these kind of players will never change. I know there are an awesome few elite players that would take the time to teach you and be patient but again that breed is almost extinct. The other breed is growing in mass numbers learning how to mispell get good day by day or finding quicker ways to leave fire team the second someone dies in a raid. Hmmm, nice try tho maybe one day.

2 답변Elitist players tend to be nice; the issue with most is that they have the same time as most people working 9-5 so even though some one such as yourself wants to improve and has difficulty due to your time constraints they have the same time constraints which can make helping others an impossibility. If I have 6 hours at max per day to play; I will grind my weekly nightfall's raids and try to finish my quests and usually get them done in my allotted time. If I start helping people; my 1 hour raid 20 minute nightfall schedule will go from 4 hours total to 6 hours per raid and 1 hour per nightfall. Now the difference in 4 hours and 21 hours is pretty massive from my perspective due to having to teach people basic mechanics they could have looked up online for 5 minutes saving me a whopping 17 hours. Being called an elitist may be harsh but it's a good trade for being time efficient. If you truly want to become an elite player do what elite players do; if an encounter has been beaten before, study it online and memorize it before putting it to practice; that ensures a high level of confidence and know-how for most encounters in the game. If you're playing versus others ensure you are playing with and against people on your level and review your game play so you don't make the same mistakes yo usually do. To truly become an elite and do things like double carries in trials or soloing raids I would suggest getting into sweats (basically custom games for destiny) so you can play versus people of your skill and higher in a competitive environment improving gun skill, mechanics and play style.

1 답변If you're on Xbox one, add me. I've done all the things you stated in that first paragraph. I'm good, maybe "elite" by someone's standards, but we all still have much to learn. I enjoy taking people through the raids and night falls and such. Most of the time I don't lose my patients because I still -blam!- up once in awhile too
